Our maternal grandma

Our maternal grandma

Written from a  great poem in “Nam Nagarathar  Group”
By
P.R.Ramachander

( Nagarathar   are great business  community of Tamil Nadu  who  are extremely rich and extremely  cultured . Their contribution to Hinduism  is unparalleled . Do you know that Ganges water   from Allahabad  is taken daily to Kasi Viswanatha  Temple for anointing  by this community. They also are  maintaining  the great Visalakshi temple  in Varanasi. The  number of temples they have   got repaired   in India is countless. I have made the poem   a general one  , by  deleting references to that  community  in the  original poem.
Please  read  it and all of you would start  the  great contribution that  the maternal   grand mother  does  in each of our lives and we all wish to thank her   again  and again.,)

I have   several relations like  ,
Aunts, uncles, brothers  , sisters  and cousin,
And I have always seen my  maternal grandmother ,
Always  obeying each and every one of them,.
And this is a small effort  in eulogizing her  by a poem.

When I was spending  my time,
Sleeping in the womb of my mother.
Oh Grandma who with  great care and concern,
Did   you not wait   for pregnancy to end.

Oh Grandma   who was greatly  supportive,
To my mother  to deliver   me out,
Oh Grand ma  who carefully   served ,
My mother  whose   entire  body was paining.

Oh Grandma who cooked food that does not  harm,
My mother who  was  still  not  completly Okay,
Oh Granma , who advised  her how   to,
Take care of me with care when I was a little babe,

Oh Grandma  of love and affection,
Who trained  my mother to properly feed,
Me   when I was  hungry and crying ,
And made  her   an expert  in taking care of me.

Oh affectionate   grandmother  mine ,
Who used   to get jittery    and tense  ,
If I cry  even after  taking milk thinking,
It may be insect bite  or indigestion  or stomach ache.

Oh Grand mother   who told   my mother,
Oh Daughter  do not get nervous ,
And do not make a big list of what it could be,
This is the way he would cry   for different problems.

Oh Grandmother   who  was  never  greatly bothered,
Whether I was given birth with love  or just like that  ,
Or   in a way   without   any problem whatsoever ,
And    would take   care  of me  with all attention.

Oh Grandma  who was  good and well-bred,
Who used  to invite the   entire village,
Take  them all inside the home  ,
Made me wear  silver anklets  and bangles  ,
And also made me wear  small  golden ring in my fingers,
And used   to become very happy  ,
After   kissing me with love  and handing me  to her daughter .

When my uncles   children ,
Were  down on earth and crying,
Oh Grand mother   , you  used  ,
To always keep me on your lap.

You would make  me sleep  ,
By singing lullaby , “Oh Gold,
Oh gem , Oh new   diamond  ,
Oh garland of flowers   made,
Of golden bells  which is difficult  to see,

Oh  grandma , you never used to bother  about yourself,
With a firm   conviction that   my comfort are much more important.

I have   never forgotten any of  my summer holidays,
And I have never spent my vacation without going to Grandma’s home.

Though you used   to play several  times  ,
Snake and ladders   and the game of Pallankuzhy,
Seeing the laughing   faces of your grand sons and  daughters,
You  would always   get   defeated  in those  games.

Every day   and every minute  you used to  got joy,
When you offer    several   and several types ,
Of sweets  and savouries  that   you make  after great toil,
And see   us eating   all of them  with great glee.

Without ever    forgetting  , Oh Grandma  ,
You used   to tell us   about the  greatness and fame of father,
And also tell us    in detail   the religious rituals,
That we   have to adopt  by telling stories  after stories.

When after   spending vacatin with you ,
When we  all refuse   to go back to our  homes,
Hiding   great sorrow   in your mind, Oh Grandma,
You used   to send us all back to our mother’s home.

The Sweets like  Manakolam and   the  unbroken Murukku,
THenkuzhal  and   cheedai that you used  to send with us  ,
Would greatly sweeten our  toungues for a  long time.

Right   from  the time   when we were  little ones.
Till  we grow up   and till we get married ,
You used   to suffocate  us with tonnes of presents.
With out getting any pay and   without taking any gifts,
You  were  the full time   grandma   for us ,
And you used to toil   for the next generation ceaselessly.

With   experience   as   your only  education,
You used   to be a maternity  lady doctor,
Then  as paediatrician   and expert  ,
In bringing up  and nurturing your grand children.
You    would also   cook various  types of dishes  ,
And  we have never seen you taking  any rest at any time..

Summarising   you were  always  much greater  than a robot ,
With one terahertz speed  and  several   gita bytes  memory  ,
And  I am seeing you  grandma as a great philanthropist  .

Best groom among the software eggs

Best  groom among   the software  eggs

(This again    was seen in a whatsapp posting by me written in Tamil  . Thanks  to that unknown author)

Vidya’s father    brought   a bunch  of alliances  from Bharath Matrimony,
Gave all  of them to her and told  . “All these  grooms   work in software firms,
And  my friend says  , they earn a lot   and so  you please choose  one of them.”
And Vidhya who knew not   anything approached her   soft ware friend and consulted her.

Vidhya asked  “The first  is a project manager, please  tell about them.”
And her friend told “He   would act as  if he   is extremely   busy all the time,
He would ask you  to cook one kg of rice  and feed fifty people,
He would buy a cabbage  and ask you   to make Gobi Manchuruian,
If you say  impossible  , he would  say  that your job  to  make it possible,
He would arrange  a night cab  and ask you  to work more  time.
And Vidhya said  “No he is not suitable at all as life would be miserable .”

Her friend continued”The second one is a test   engineer , whose job is to find fault  ,
And so whatever you do , he  will criticize it   and point out all faults,
If you cook a great feast to please him, one by one  he would tell us ,
All  the faults in each dish and suppose   you with sorrow ask him,
“Would you not point out the good in anything “ , he would say,
“No, making good   is your job and finding fault is my job.” And Vidhya naturally rejected.

Her friend  said,”The third is a performance auditor   and he is the most dangerous of the lot,
He is the worst of the lot  for if you prepare coffee   for   him, he would ask,
Why  you took  ten minutes   as it should take you only five minutes  and if you answer,
“Filter coffee “, He would say  the time  is more important  and he would be,
Watching all  your actions  including wearing a dress , washing your face m
Searching for a shoe  and tell you  that  you are not at all  time conscious  and efficient”
Without   much thinking   Vidhya said  “No, definitely  no.”

Vidhya then  decided   to say no to all software  grooms  but her friend told,
After  going through  the list. “Ah you missed  this guy who is a software  developer.
Here is a guy who will never expect you to do anything  and do everything himself,
But  the only problem is He would say  that “I know that” for every question,
And  whatever you shout at  him , he would smile  , if every few minutes,
He would say  “You are a very good person and know everything ...”
Vidhya  said “The best   among  the  worst , let me say  Ok to him”

One very rich  friend   and his very poor friend,
Were   once  forced   to cross   a big  desert.
They started the journey   sharing   the small quantity,
Of Water   as well as  food that  both of them had.

But when  The poor man  exhausted his small  stock quickly,
The rich man   still had   more  of food and water ,
But  he stopped   sharing   what   he had with him,
And then they saw   a very huge   date palm  in the desert,

The Poor man ran to pick up the fallen fruits   but the rich one,
Pushed him away    and took all the date   fruits   for himself only,
And when the poor man said “Give me some as   you have plenty of food.”
The rich man got very angry and beat him  and poor   man wrote on the sand,
Which was hot    that “My fried   beat   me    for no reason .I felt sad.”

The stock of water    with both of them  got exhausted  and  then they saw,
A little water  in the  green patch of  land   and though the rich man  rushed there first,
He thought    the misery that  his friend   was undergoing and gave all the water  to him,.
The poor man   searched   for a stone   and wrote “My frind sacrificed his wants  and helped me.”

Then an Angel   appeared   there and asked the poor friend   , why he wrote  earlier on sand,
And now on  stone and   the poor but wise    friend   replied  “The mistakes   done should,
Vanish in thin air  and the good that   he did should live  as  long  as   the  world lives.”
And he said , “The greatest  thing that   we have to earn is not wealth but  human relationship.”

Where is God , how is he and what does he do?

Where is God , how is he  and what does  he do?

By
P.R.Ramachander
(based  on a famous folk tale)

There  was a very great  king  in South  of India,
Who was well  known as  “Krishna   Deva Raya”
And in his  court   were  eight  great geniuses,
Whom  the world  called “Eight  great  wise elephants.”

One day the   king  came to the court   with lot of confusion,
And  he told those eight   wise  people . “ since  yesterday,
I am not able    to sleep  at all as my mind is asking  ,
“Where  is God ?  How is he ?and what is he doing?”

I expect  one  of you wise  people   to solve this great puzzle,
So that  from today at least  , I can have a peaceful  sleep.”
The wise  people   of the court   were greatly  baffled,
And Tenali  Rama , the court  jester  stood up  to answer the king.

Tenali Rama lighted  a big candle   and asked   the king,
“Which direction   does   candle’s flame   show? and king said.
“ofcourse  top”and then Tenali Rama  kept   the  candle on the ,
Left ,  right  , down and asked the king “where?” and king said “Top”

Then Tenali Rama  told , this holds  for God also  and he is always on the top,
And then Tenali Rama   asked the servants to bring   a cup of milk ,
And asked”If we add curd to this  what will  happen?”  and king said,
“It would become curd.” And Tenali Rama  asked , “if we churn the curd?”
King said “WE would get butter “And Rama asked “If we heat the butter” king said “ghee”

Tenalai Rama asked the king “Do you then agree   that  this cup of milk,
Has curd, butter  and ghee   also ?”  and the king said “yes” and Rama asked”
“PLease tell  me  onwhich side  of the   cup these are   there? “ and the king answered,
“Impossible to tell” and Rama said , “Similarly God is every where and it is not   easy to find him”

The king wanted  answer to his  last question as to what  is God doing now.
And Tenali Rama requested the  king to occupy his seat  and permit him to sit on the throne,
And then Rama summoned  king’s police and asked  them  to imprison the mad king,
And Rama told “Just for fun,  just now the God  hasmade you  in to a   very ordinary person ,

Who will obey my orders   at this moment”And king got answers   to all questions.

The ever needy child and the ever sacrificing tree(parent)

The ever needy child and the ever  sacrificing tree(parent)

By
P.R.Ramachander

(Based on the great posting by my friend  Anantha Narayanan in face book. My acknowledgements to him. )

There was a young boy of a little known village,
Who used to daily go near tree and sing and play?
The tree used   to daily become happy   on seeing him
And   started loving   that   boy as if he was its son.

One day   the boy did not come   and the tree became very sad,
And after   a few days he came with a sad face   and sat near the tree,
And when the tree asked “Why he was sad?”  He said   with great sorrow,
“All my friends have pretty dolls but I do not have any and so I am sad.”

The tree   told “you did not come for such a simple reason and please,
Harvest all the fruits on my branches, go to the   market and sell them.
You will get lots and lots of money to buy prettier dolls.”
The boy did that, got lot of money and bought lots of dolls.

But he stopped coming to see   the tree and came again after many years,
The tree burst in to tears of joy on seeing him and told him, “Come on.
Climb on my branches and play.” But the man who was once a boy told,
“Now I am a family man and I have wife and kids. I am sad because I do not have a home.”

The tree laughed aloud and said, “Cut all my branches and build a home,
For you with them but please   do come daily as I am sad   at not seeing you.”
The man agreed, cut off all   the trees   branches, made planks and beams,
And built a pretty home for him and his family   but he stopped coming to the tree.

But he did come after many many years to the tree   with a sad face and told,
“My fishing boat    got broken down and I am not able    to earn anything and so I am sad,”
The tree who has happy to see him said, “Cut off all my trunk   and leave only roots,
And build a fishing boat with them. I would cry because I know   you will never come.”

That middle aged man cut almost the entire tree left the stump   and roots,
Built a great boat   and became rich but never bothered   to visit the old tree.
Years rolled by   and after a long, long time an old man with grey hair and,
Sunken cheeks came in search of the tree and simply    sat there on the earth.

With tears flowing torrentially   from its eyes   the tree told   him whom it loved,
“I do not have fruits, nor branches, nor stems or anything to give you.” And he said,
“I do not have teeth and I cannot bite your fruits and I do not have strength,
To build a home or boat and I do not need them as my family   has deserted me.”

He continued “I need rest” can I keep my head on your roots   and take rest”
And the tree said of course   and at last, the tree   became really   happy.
This story is that of us all and our parents, when we were young we played with them,
And all our needs   were met by them and we   did not even bothered to visit them,
When all that wanted were love   and affection and our time.
