Compensation –then and now

Compensation –then and now

By
P.R.Ramachander

( “Then” based  on a story from a  book called  AAnmeega  Kalanchiyam(Spiritual  collection )

Then:-
A king   went to hunt in the   forest ,
And from a distance he saw   some  being on a tree,
And he   shot  and killed   it   with great ease,
But the being happened   to be a young man.

The king’s servants   summoned   his parents,
Who  were  living in poor conditions in a hut,
And since   their young    son was  their only support,
They cried  and cried a lot, and felt  very sad.

The king   felt bad  that  he has  killed  that young man,
And offered to look after  his parents but they refused,
And then the king removed   all the jewellery that he wore,
And   kept it on  a plate   and in another  he kept his sword.

He told them, “Either  take all  my ornaments  or kill me”,
And then the lad’s father  told , “If we take your jewelleries,
WE would be   insulting our  son by  selling  him at a price fixed by you,,
And if we  kill you, our son  would be sad  that the  country had lost a good king”. And went away.

And now :-

But  nowadays  some rushing   bus  kills  some one,
In a political Tamasha   many people    die,
A  train derails   and kills many  for no fault of the driver or the Government,

And  the only thing  the parents of deceased want  is a compensation in cash.

Fate driven death of a pet of Indrani

Fate driven death  of a  pet of Indrani

By
P.R.Ramachander

(Based  on a post   in face book. Thanks to that anonymous author)

Indrani , the wife  of Indra  had a pet  parrot,
It became   sick  and the  world’s  greatest  vet,
He examined  the bird   and told   that it is sinking,
And nearing  its   day of death  very fast.

Indrani  approached her  husband  Indra  and,
Requested  him  to save her  pet  and  he ,
Immediately rushed  to Lord Brahma with a request,
And he told , he is only a creator  and along with Indra, went to Lord Vishnu.

Lord Vishnu   told them that he was  only a manager,
And all the three  of them went to Lord Shiva , the destroyer,
And he agreed that he was a destroyer  but  death of beings,
Is being managed by Lord Yama  and all of them went to Yama’s  place.

Lord Yama  was sitting in a room where   several  labels were hanging,
And he told that  when the label falls down  , that being is  dead,
And at that  time one label fell down and  in it was written,

“This bird would die when Indra, Brahma, Vishnu and Shiva  meet Lord Yama.”

Do not touch these five and drive them out

Do not  touch these five and drive  them out

By
P.R.Ramachander

(The great Tamil  poet defines Dharma as that  life without  Jealousy  , desire, anger   and undesirable words. Adhi Sankara   says

Passion, anger  , and avarice  live  ,
Within you    as robbers ,
For stealing  the gem of wisdom,
And so please   wake up  , wake up.

And my friend  Anatha Narayanan in his post says it is  desire, anger , miserliness  , pride and jealousy  (Kama, Krodha, lobha , Madha and Mathsaya)  are  the five great sins  to be treated as untouchables   to attain God

Other preachers   of Hindu Dharma   ask us to avoid  Kama, Ktodha, Lobha  , MOha  , Madha and Mathsarya

. This small write  up has borrowed ideas  of treating them as untouchable   from my friend  . Thank you my friend)

Consider   desire  as an untouchable  ,
Because  once we   desire   any thing  ,
Our mind would always be thinking about it,
And  due to that  we would  never   think of God

Consider   Anger   as an  untouchable  ,
Because   every bout of anger  would make us sorry,
And the entire angry  mind   would be busy being  furious,
And due to that     we would never    think   of God.

Consider  miserliness     as an untouchable,
Because   being miser we  would always be busy,
IN finding out  how to avoid  needed expenditure  and how to earn without spending,
And due to that    we would   never   think of God

Consider    passion as   an untouchable  ,
Because   once    we are   caught  in its net,
Our mind and soul  will always  be after  that emotion,
And due to that   we would never think of God.

Consider   Pride    as an untouchable  ,
For our mind would be busy  in finding reasons for us to be great.,
AS well   as   finding fault with real greatness  as only we  should be great,
And due to that   we would   never   think of God

Consider  Jealousy    as an untouchable ,
Which makes  us  sad if  any one  else  lives happily,
And always berating us   that   we are  not  up to the mark,
And due to that   we would never   think of God.

Make these untouchables to go away from you,
So that   we lead   a great life    as ordained by Dharma ,
And are   able    to go near    the     great God,
When we are alive   and also  after death.

The villager and the judge

The villager  and the judge

Translated by
P.R.Ramachander

(Translated  from a face book post. I forgot to not down who posted it. Thanks   to that Anonymous   friend)

One village   hotel  owner   was arrested   and produced,
Before   the judge as he   was having a  separate  tumbler,
For   supplying    tea     for people   of lower caste  ,
That used   to visit   his   hotel    for  tea.

The judge asked , “ Do you  practice two tumbler system,”
And he replied “Why two , I have   many tumblers in my holtel”,
Then the judge asked , “ If at the same   time   two people  ,
Of different caste  come as  clients, Do you supply  tea to them in two tumblers?”

The villager asked him , “Of course . , How can I supply  them in only one tumbler?”
The judhe got angry  and asked , “Do you give tea to lower castes  in separate  tumblers”
The village  replied, “It is my hotel, I never ask  those who do not like it to come there”
The judge   then fined   the villager   a fine for accepting his crime .

The villager  said  that , he was in need of using   the rest room urgently,
And asked  permission of the judge   to use  the  rest room allotted to the judge.
The Judge shouted at him  and told  “Of course no, we have  a separate   rest room ,
For people like you.”  And villager  asked, “Is keeping two  separate  rest room Okay?”
“Have you built  your rest room   using   your own money?  ,Is this court  ,
A part of your home or  is it that no lawyer   dares to file   a case against you?”

A social worker meets a thief

A  social worker meets a   thief

Translated by
P.R.Ramachander

(Translated from Bhanu Ravi’s posting. Thanks to you.)

One middle aged    social worker   was  returning home,
And he was stopped a very young lad holding a knife ,
And demanded  his purse   and the social worker ,
Did not hesitate  for a moment and gave  his purse to him.

The  young thief started   running away from there  ,
And the social worker   called him back and told him,
“It is  very  cold outside and so please  take my coat  and wear it,
And the thief told him,” I am not able   to understand you.”

The social worker  told him, “You seem to be  very hungry,
And if you are  agreeable   we would go  and eat some food in a hotel nearby,
And also   seeing you  rising your  life itself   for a few hundred rupees,
I feel you are   in a very deep trouble  and let us discuss it over a cup of tea.”

The thief was utterly   confused   and went to a hotel nearby,
And all the employees   as well as manager respected the social worker ,
And seeing this the thief asked , Why so much respect to you, do you own it?”
But the social worker smiled  and told, “I came here  often   and  they all know me.”

The thief watched him behaving   with great politeness   with even the waiter,
And wondered  why, and the social  worker told  , “I was  taught in my school like that,
Were you not?” and the thief said  , “Ofcourse  but I thought it was   all humbug”
And when the  bill was presented , the social worker  asked for his purse   so that he can pat,

The Thief did not run away  and then the   social worker told  him,
“Somehow I like your knife , would you sell it to me ?”  and thieffdid sell it,
And without taking the purse   took leave    of the social worker and told him,
“You have changed me   and now on  I would prefer to starve  than rob.”
And this is a real story   of Mr Julio dias     , who lived  in USA  and teaches us,
That  any one  who thinks  about problems of others    than   his own problems,

Who always speaks  sweetly  and who never break down  would find world his oyster .”

King and the sage

King  and the sage

Translated by
P.R.Ramachander

(Translated from Face book post of my friend Anantha Narayanan)

There was   a sage who used   to do penance in the forest,
And once a day he used to extend  his right palm  ,
And if any thing  is placed   in it he would swallow it  ,
And people   round the forest  , used to  daily feed him.

One day   the king of a nearby  kingdom came    for hunting to the forest ,
And at that time   the sage  happened   to extend   his hand ,
And the king   filled his  extended palm     with  horseshit,
And the sage   simply swallowed it    and king and king’s men had  a hearty laugh

Next day   the revered   Guru of the king   came to his court,
And he chided  the king   for what he    did and told him,
“A mountain of horse   shit   is waiting   your arrival  in hell,
And till  you swallow all of them , they would torture you   for the silly thing  you dd.”

The king  repented    a lot    and vacated   his great palace  ,
And started  living in a g hut  , and started   feeding  every one ,
Who came there   and  meeting the expense of marriage  ,
Of all the  girls   who approached   him in the forest.

Some bad people   started    finding fault   with him,
And started   telling  that  his intention   of getting  ,
The girls to g his hut  are not good and all  the feeding,
He did was not done   by using his money but   that of the country.

After a lot of days , one blind man and his virtuous  wife,
Came bear the hunt   and the lady stood for a minute   to salute  the king,
And the blind husband asked , “Where    are we standing?’
And she replied  “In front of the hut of the  king who helps every one,

The blindman laughed   , “Is he that   king   who   gets girls   to his hut with bad  intention?”
And the lady old . “You know    that due to my virtue   I can see   everything ,
That happens everwhere. Every time   a  person  without basis   finds fault with him,
One hand full of horse shit  would  be removed     from the   mountain,
And today  only one hand full was left   and it is now reserved   for you.”

Wail of a lady waiting a long time to become a mother

Wail  of a   lady  waiting  a long time   to become a mother

By
P.R.Ramachander

(  I have added   few lines   to  the post   of my friend  Manikandan  Seetharaman . With eyes full of  tears   I felt   that to be born  as a lady  , sometimes is cursed .)

After  my marriage  and before  my honey moon  ,
My mother   told me in secret  , being him or her   within a year,
I only   smiled   as we both    wanted   to enjoy  the life  of togatherness,
Times  passed  ,  we did celebrate   our   second anniversary  ,
And slowly  in the corner of my mind  , there was a speck   of sorrow,
That   he or she   has  still not  heralded   their arrival,
Both our parents     were   becoming   worried   about your not coming .
But   they told with each other  , after all she is young  ,let her enjoy,
Another   two years passed   and  we both  went   to a great doctor  ,
Who examined   all that  was needed told us   with confidence,
That   everything with   all right   with both   of us and we returned with cheer.

Some more   years   ran with  the speed of  a jet plane
And now

When those three   days  are  slightly postponed
I would ebb with joy    that   you only   have  come,
I would loosen the    petticoat   thinking  that  it would pain you,
And  often I used   to catch my petticoat  thinking  it may slip,
I would wear only   cotton saris thinking , others  may cause more heat to you,
Love making   was s a  pleasant meditation   making your body and  mind  become one,
But instead   of enjoying that pleasant feeling  I would  be thinking  within myself,
Whether   you would have   formed already   to make me happy.

My belly button  reminds me of my mother ,
It also reminds me that  , still I have  not become a mother,
AS of now   my belly becomes   full   only   by food,
But  I am waiting for a time   when it becomes   full with you.
Come , come my darling  , I do not want to carry   food  within me  anymore  ,
I want to carry you  , Please tell me where you are   and when you are going to come,

If any one   tells    “Oh mother  “, I am reminded   only of you,
When I am nearing    forty my   mind   and heart  are beating fast  ,
I am feeling    angry with my mother   that    she carried me,
Who  am not able    to carry you    at this time
I  am happy that  I did not give my mother  the pain that   you are giving me,
Are you not my child, Please do not give me pain  of your absence   to me ,
Even if a little blood only is left   to make my heart beat,
I would   make   an egg  out of that   blood   and would be waiting for you ,

My darling    where    are   you , please do come.
