She wants him

She  wants  him

Translated  by
P.R.Ramachander

(I have very great  respect to my friend  Meena Rajan , who is   a  great teacher  who has  sacrificed herself   to educate kids in the school  where  she became a teacher   .She does  some times  write great poems  .This was one .My writing is not a simple  translation of her work .I have used  my fashion of writings. Thanks, sister)

To show love  and get  love, I  am a selfish lady,
Some   times that  life  is my own personal world,
And   just like  anybody  else  , I too have   some expectations

For my love , words, thoughts, sorrows and  joys,
I expect   a mind of love, which would  understand me.
I am not  able  to be without expectations, Am I not also,
Yet  another  ordinary    average   lady with some  desires.

To my smiling face, if  he  shows no emotions, I will fade,
If he refuses  to understand my words, I will run far-far  away

He can get  me tied with  his love,
He  can buy  me   with  his affection.

He need not   even talk to me but thoughts about me  are  sufficient,
To pull him  near  to me, my dear thoughts  should be  more than okay.

Dear expectations , small , small criticisms,
Love  quarrels,  going beyond each other’s rights,
And sometimes   going much beyond him and his,
Are joy  , heavenly joy. Unalloyed joy .

What is Nirmalya Darsanam and Vaka chathu in Guruvayur?

What is  Nirmalya Darsanam  and Vaka chathu  in Guruvayur?

Translated from Malayalam by
P.R.Ramachander

Normally   we take “NIrmalya  Darsanam”,
AS  that   which remove  sins(dirts)  in our mind,
And some how   every one   thinks  it is seeing God ,
Without his  garland  or decorations.

But as soon  as the doors   are  opened  ,
What we see  is the God  decorated ,
With all  the previous   day decorations ,
And this is not NIrmalya darsanam.

This  darsanam   should be done   with  chanting,
Of Vedic Sukthas  and the  devotees  ,
Should put   the flowers  in their hand,
Towards the steps  of the sanctum.

Then the priest   wakes up the lord ,
And removes   the dress  sandal  paste  ,
And flowers   from the lord   and what we see,
Is the bare  statue of God  without decorations  and this  is Nirmalyam

Since devotees  believe   that  by seeing  the God,
Glistening without  any decorations  is more  beneficial,
They think  Nirmalya darsanam   grants  ,
More   blessing   than any  other darsanam.

Then the God   is given a   bath  and,
Gingelly  oil  is applied  on the lord,
And powder called Vaka   is put  on the statue,
So that    oil can be removed-This is called  Vaka Charthu,

Normally the powder of dried  leaves  ,
Of the Nenmeni vaka  (siris   tree ) is used ,
To remove   the oil   applied  to the God,
And the  God appears  very pretty  with sprinkled Vaka

Then the  Vaka   as well oil is removed from  the body,
And the God is dried  and he is   dressed  up,
For all of us   to see  after in various,
Forms mainly using flowers   and sandal-Chandana Charthu

The birth of Rama

The birth of Rama

Compiled   from Three  Ramayanas(My translations)

By
P.R.Ramachander

(I am one of the lucky ones   who went  to Rama Lalla(baby Rama)  temple  adjoining  the mosque  before  the mosque    was destroyed. I am so happy  that the temple  is going to be rebuilt  in a great manner.(image  given)  Please read how three  great Ramayanas  describe  the birth of rama)

I.Valmiki  Ramayana by Valmiki  in SAnskrit

Six seasons were over after  the fire sacrifice,  and in the twelfth month which was Chithra, on the Navami day( The ninth phase of rising moon) , on the star belonging to  Adhithi Devatha (Punarvasu) when five of the nine planets were in exalted position, In the Karkitaka lagna , When planet Guru was with moon, Kausalya gave birth to the lord of universe, who was blessed with all good signs and who was a part of Lord Vishnu and he was received by all the world and was there to perpetuate   the Ikshuvaku clan.                                                                                                                                            18.8-18.10

With a son of immeasurable luster  Kausalya glowed with luster  like Adithi, who had earlier become mother to Lord Indra who wielded  the  Vajrayudha          18.11

II.Kamba Ramayanam   By Kamban  in Tamil

279.   Those three  middle aged queens  , after some more days,
Got  many desires and also   underwent many sufferings of pregnancy,
And apart from their face    , their other limbs  ,
Also shined   like  moon   and they were like moon because of it.

280.When the   time for delivery came  ,
And the goddess earth became very happy
And the bamboo like Punar poosam star  . the devas,
And the pure Rasi of Kadaka   , jumped with joy.

281. Sidhas  , devas   and middle aged women,
Famous saints , those who live   in  heaven,
And those who live   in heaven after   death ,
Shouted in joy when time came closer and closer ,
Thinking that   the great God of Dharma   would live long.

282.That  Kousalya with great ability  , for the sake  of auspiciousness.
Gave birth to a child , who  kept  the world safe during the time of final deluge  ,
By keeping it in his belly , And who    is the  one who cannot be understood by Vedas,
And who  is the lustrous light showing   the prettiness of  a budding  cloud.

III.Adhyathma  Ramayanam by Thunjathu  Ezhuthachan  in Malayalam

Like the ornaments  for his queens, to the Brahmins,
To the citizens , to the earth and to the  gods,
Sorrow became very less daily, and
Great luster increased for those who talk less,
He performed rituals like  Seemantham and Pumsavanam,
And the king also gave money to charity   to his full desire,
And the pregnancy  came to an end and at that time
Four children were  born to him at the time  ,
When five planets  in exalted position , and at that time,
Lord Vishnu became  the son of queen Kausalya,
His star was Punarvasu  and the thidhi (moon’s phase)was Navami,
And  the great Lord  was born  at the time when,
Lord Jupiter was  along with  the lord of his birth star,
And it was in Karkidaga Lagnam  , it was in greatly exalted position,
Lord  Sun was greatly exalted, Sani was  in Thula Rasi,
Lord Venus was in Meena rasi , Lord mars  was in retrograde,
And was greatly exalted in Makara rasi,
All the Gods were crowding in all directions,
And at that time in Poosa star Kaikeyi got a son,
And the next day queen Sumithra  got twins.

You should be lucky to be born as a boy/girl?,

You should be  lucky to be born as a boy/girl?,

Recreated  from Tamil by
P.R.Ramachander

(I read an article saying  that you  should be extremely  lucky to be born as a boy.? Is it true?)

Boys need never   to get a make up done,
They  need   not  grow  long   hair at all,
But    every  month they  have  to get a hair cut,
And daily   they have  to have  a face shave.

Though girls   need   to get made up often,
Though    they need  to  grow   their hair long,
Though they have   to bother  about periods   every month,
They  can attract  others  unlike  a  boy  .

Whether  boys  have to go   to delhi or USA,
Or go  to the local  market    or to the post office,
All that they   need   to have, is their usual,
Full pant   and shirt, once in a while  washed and ironed.

Daily   and possibly  for every hour   girls need  to wear,
A different cloth and for attending   a party,
Or a marriage they need to dress  up well,
So that  they are centre  of attraction  of all.

Whether  guests come to boy’s   home for a visit,
Or they   have   to visit   yet    another   home
They can talk    anything    from politics  to science,
Without bothering   about   the impression   they make

When visitors  come to the girl’s  home  or they go,
To visit  some other   friends home ,
They   should not talk  all the non sense  they like,
For    they have to bother about  the impression they make.

Whatever  may the festival   or function at home,
Without bothering   about  matching   cloths,
Without bothering   about  wearing any ornament,
Boys  can always  appear    with a dhothi  and Banyan

Whenever there  is a function or festival   at home ,
Girls   should  dress up   and attract  all others,
And bother   about   the impression that   they make,
And they have essentially  to bother  as to what  they wear.

Boys need not bother  about white hairs,
Nor the increasing  circumference  of their hip,
Nor  bother  about what  they regularly  eat  ,
So that   their    weight   would increase

AS attraction   and beauty  is a girl’s  birth right,
They have to be careful   as  to how they look,
And they   should bother   about to have a pretty look,
Which is slim , less  hip size and  very charming.

The charity we gave , the insults that we  underwent,
Are    the nine things   that are to be kept as secret by us.
