Lines that surprised me

Lines  that  surprised  me

Translated from Tamil

By

P.R.Ramachander

He who eats , till he becomes sick,

Would  be forced to starve till he  becomes  healthy

Earning money is like  digging earth by a pin

But spending  it is like  blowing balloon by a pin

To know  value of money –spend

To know  value  of yourself- ask loan

Even giving  alms  is selfish

If you think , you would go  to heaven by that

That  which can only  be known by  experience

Cannot be known even by thousand philosophers

Be like a baby , to learn life

It will fall , cry  and then walk again

Do not cut , I will give you rain says the  tree

Cut , then I will save rain water says the pond

A man searches for a girl with good past

A girl searches  for a man who has  good future

Do not bother of one who is in front of you

But one who is behind you, He may overtake you

Possibly thinking  we have  to see and talk again,

Many  of our   angers  commit  suicide

The money  which is earned  honestly

Rarely  comes to collection box of temple

More than  what we have learnt  to live,

More is the laugh we break  after  forgetting pains

Traitors  will not have hunger

And  those who get angry will never be traitors

Those who show others as bad to become great

Will not be able to act  as good people  for long

Prayer to God to give long life to our better half

Prayer to God to give long life to our better half

Everyday  your wife would pray for a long life to you .I was wondering if there is any prayer at all praying for long life to our dear wife , whose only ambition seems to be to make your life pleasant , provide you constant companionship , to advise you to take the correct decision in family affairs and so on. She is also the greatest wealth that an old man like me can have because without even a tinge of selfish desires she would always be with me . I could not find any such prayer and so decided to write a prayer myself. I hope all husbands would enjoy reading it and after reading it pray for a long life to your better half

She who came leaving her family and uprooted herself to be with you,
She who was a constant companion amidst sorrow and joy, through thick and thin,
She who is the greatest wealth any one can have in this and the other would,
Would always be with you giving you joy and help ,if this prayer is answered.

 Who is a Brahmin?

(From 4 great sources)

Collected by

P.R.Ramachander

1.From BHagawad gita chapter 18

śamō damastapaḥ śauchaṃ kṣāntirārjavamēva cha

jñānaṃ vijñānamāstikyaṃ brahmakarma svabhāvajam 42

The qualities which are natural to the Brahmins are,

Control of mind and the senses, austerity,

Purity, forgiving nature, uprightness, knowledge,

Quality of searching and belief in the life after death. 42

2.From Manu Nithi

Janmana Jayathe Shudra, karmana jayathe Dwija

Veda patyanthu Vipra, Brahma Jnane Brahmaa

A person takes birth as Shudra, By rituals he becomes dwija(twice born)

By reading Vedas he becomes Vipra and only by knowing Brahman he becomes Brahamana

3.From Thirukkural by Thiruvalluvar

(One of the greatest book in tamil)

30.Anthanar yenbor Aravor , mathevyuirkkum,

Chenthanmai poondu ozhukalal

Brahmins (great people) are followers of Dharma,

As they treat with great mercy all beings on earth.

134.Marappinum othu kolalaagum paarppan,

Pirappozhukkam kundra kedum..

If a Brahmin forgets to learn Vedas , he can learn them,

But if he errs from good conduct , none would believe him to be a noble one.

4.From Thirumandiram by Thirumoolar

(Author is a sidha and a Saivite saint)

a,Noolum sikhayum , nuvalil brahmamo,

Noolathu kaarpaasam , nun sikhai kesamaam,

Noolathu vedantham , nun sikhai jnanamam,

Nooladai anthanar kaanum nuvalile.

Sacred thread and hanging lock of hair(kudumi) are symbol of Brahmins

But sacred thread is simple cotton thread and lock of hair is simply hair,

The thread they should have is philosophy, and lock of hair is wisdom,

And each Brahmin wearing sacred thread should know about this.

b.Sathiyam indri thani jnanam than indri,

Otha vidayam vittorum unarvindri,

Bathiyum indri, paran unmai indri,

Pitherum moodar brahmanar thaam andre.

They without truth , without special wisdom,

They without proper knowledge , they who have no feeling for others,

They without devotion, They who do not know truth of God,

Are lunatic idiots and they are not brahmins.

Story  Of shyama

There was a king called  Badhrasrava  in saurashtra. His queen was called Karachandrika,

The king was  an extremely good person who used to talk only auspicious  things The queen was  educated , virtuous and pretty,. She never used  to get angry. They had seven sons followed by  a daughter  whom they named  as Shyama

Goddess Mahalakshmi was greatly please with queenKachandrika and on a Friday  with Dwadasi thidhi, she entered the palace as a old lady who  was a sumangali. At that time the queen had finished a   heavy lunch and was eating thamboola and she asked”Oh mother  , who are  you? And Why have you come here? .” Then Mahalakshmi replied”You are a very good lady but today is a holy day of Goddess Lakshmi. Is it proper for you to eat your lunch and take your thamboola,  without worshipping the Godess?”

The queen gotvery angry when her mistake was pointed out to her. And she slapped  Goddess on her cheek,  Mahalakshi with eye  eye full of tears went out of the  queen’s room,

Shyama who wa playing outside saw the old lady who was crying and returning and Goddess  told her   as to what  happened, Shyama did pranams to her took her to her room and requested her  to teach  what has to be done on this special day to Mahalakshmi. Then the Goddess  Taught her what  has to be done on every Friday.Shyama followed her instructions and started  doing penance and pooja to Goddess  Lakshmi on all Fridays.

The wealth of the king started reducing. . He thought , that it is better to  Give Shyama in marriage to a  good king called  Maladhara . After marriage  king Maladhara became very rich ,

Shyama’s parents however lost their kingdom all properties and were driven out  .They lived in a forest  and  were starving and seeking alms .

Shyama came to know of this and sent food to them through a Palace  servant.Once she sent a box full of gold coins to them.V But when they opened they only saw charcoal pieces.

Shyama  met them and told her mother all that happened and taught her the method  of worshipping goddess Lakshmi and slowly become rich. They also  got back their kingdom .

Then both quens called  all sumangali ladies  of their  kingdom  and taught  them , the pooja of Lakshmi and all of them lived happily   with prosperity

On varalakshmi pooja days  , Sumangalis  should observe penance and do  Pooja to goddess Lakshmi  .After that  they  should call sumangalis nearby  to their home   and honour them  with auspicious presents  and Dakshina

They will become prosperous and lead a very happy life

Silence- many meanings

 Silence- many meanings

(This Word has  very many meanings)

Translated  from Tamil

By

P.R.Ramachander

When trying to reach an aim

Silence is power

When fighting with some one,

Silence is strength

When not  agreeing to  what you do not like

Silence  is fight

When you fall in a marriage hall

And then get up and sit

Silence is shame

When thinking about

People whom we have lost

Silence  is sorrow

When  we want to take revenge

On those who made  us suffer

Silence  is anger

When you are  using what you have learnt

Silence is joy

When we are tired and it is peaceful

Silence is sleep

When every one  thinks you are  sleeping

Whhen body does not move,

And neighbors  are  surrounding you

Silence is death
