Avyaja Karuna Murthi

Avyaja  Karuna Murthi
(The  one who is kind for no reason at all)

By
P.R.Ramachander

(Avyaja Karuna Murthi is  one of the names of Ambal   in Lalitha SAhasranam. I got it from  a Whatsapp message  .My thanks to whosoever wrote it.)

A small family   with mother , father , elder sister and a baby
Were living  in a small  city and  once the   father on his salary  day ,
Brought  sweets  from the sweet shop  and  when the baby  ,
Rushed  to see  him  and gave hera Jilebi  because  the baby loved  it.

And just   for  the sake  of fun, the d father requested the baby,
The JIlebi   she   was   having   in her hand  and the baby.
Tightly  and refused   to f give it to him, and he said to her,
‘Do I not give you dolls  and dress?”  and she still refused to give.

Then mother  came out of the house with great confidence,
That  she   will give it to her   and the baby   simply refused,
Then mother told  “Do I not give everything to you  , dress you.
AS also  give you bath and milk “but the  baby  still refused.

Then her elder   suister  came near  fondled her and asked for it,
But the baby did not even  consider  her request  and said “no”.
And then the  sister of   the baby  told, :” i am daily  taking you tothe park,
And also  look after you when mother  is not there, And baby said “no”.

At that  time the maid servant  along with her baby came there,
The maid was hiding behind the Sari  of  her mother,
The baby  pulled out    the baby   of the  maod,
And gave   her the Jileby   with a great   smile.

The mothe Goddess is also very much similar  to the baby,
And she gives everything   the devotee wants  without his asking ,
Or  the devotee   telling any reason   , why it should  be given to him.

And that  is  because  she is Avyaja Karuna Mothi  , The kind one  who gives for no reason it all.

Difference between love and marriage

Difference between love   and marriage

Written  in English
By
P.R.Ramachander

(Based  on a face book  post of  my face face book friend Meena Rajan –Thanks  Madam.)

One young lad   who   was yet to choose   his life partner,
Approached    a very learned   man and   asked him,
“Dear sir , I know  marriage makes   any  individual complete,
But  I would like to know the difference between love and marriage.”

The learned man sent   him first   to a very great rose garden,
And wanted him to bring him back  the prettiest  rose there,
Entering by front gate   and   coming out by back gate ,
Never   walking  by   the same road   twice.

The  young lad   returned   empty handed   and when asked why ,
Told, “every flower I saw ahead   appeared  more prettier to me  ,
And when I   reached  the end , I felt  I had seen more prettier flowers earlier.”
And so   I could not  bring you back  the most pretty flower.

The learned man then sent the lad to a  field of fully open sun flowers,
And wanted   him to bring a   pretty sun flower    from there ,
Taking care  never to pick two flowers  and not returning by the same path,
And the Lad   came in a jiffy   with   a pretty   sun flower  in hand.

The learned man asked “Was this   the prettiest   sun flower in the field?”
And the lad replied “Definitely no  , I was   very particular  to have  a pretty flower,
And not searching  for the prettiest  flower , unlike  last time ,
When I was  searching  for the prettiest  flower in the field.”

Learned man said, “Your search   for prettiest   flowers   is love,
And your search for one   pretty flower to have   is  marriage  .
IN the   former  situation   you would  never reach satisfaction,

And in the later  , you would be happy   and  satisfied.”

Is there a person called “God”?

Is there   a person called  “God”?

By
P.R.Ramachander

(The original story   was told in Tamil  by  Thirumuruga  Krupananda  Varriar . I have  modified it slightly   and condensed it. Many thanks to that  messenger  of God)

An elderly devotee   with closed eyes   was meditating  ,
Sitting    in the shade  of Banyan tree in a  village,
A young   student  happened   to come  there,
And asked him , “Why are   you sitting and sleeping?”

The devotee  opened his eyes   and told   that  he was ,
Meditating  on God  and student  laughed loudly and told,
“I am a post graduate  and I feel that  what you do is  foolish,
AS there  is no such thing called God as  I have not seen it”

He told further , “ I want to know   whether  you g have seen God.
Or have t you any time  heard   that  God speak to you, or,
Have you  at any time  , touched that  thing  which you call god.”
And the devotee   told him , “No , is the answer  to all your questions”

Then the devotee   asked the student  “You are   carrying  a  bottle,
In your hand  , what s it? “ and the student replied “It is honey?”
The devotee   asked, “do you know   whether  honey is sweet or bitter,”
And the stuent replied”You must be a great fool, all the  world knows   it is sweet.”

Then the devotee   asked  the student”  what is the colour  of sweetness?”
He replied “ Sweetness   cannot be seen but   only can be felt when you drink honey”
Then that devotee told , “ Similaly God cannot be seen but   you can know him by experience.”
Anf then the devotee   quoted   a  verse  of poem  by a great  devotee  called THirumoolar.

Is the sweetness inside honey  black or red?
Oh fools    who search    for god in the sky,
Just like    sweetness  is hidden in side the honey,
God is   hiding     within your body ,please understand.”

The student  wanted   to somehow escapt   from the devotee,
And said that he was hungry and will return  after taking food.
The devotee asked , “you said  you are intelligent   and educated,
Have you seen this hunger at any time, Jave you heard  or touched it.?’

The student said , Answer is “No” for everything”  and the devotee said,
“I like you feel that   there is nothing  called Hunger, you are  telling a lie.”
He continued “Just like  God  you cannot see hunger but  you  can feel it.”
The student   felt that in the words  of the devotee  there  was some truth.

He said  , “Yes, I agree   with you  but  I would like to  know  whether I can see god?”
Then devotee asked “Are  you able to see  your body?  And he replied”Yes . i am able to,
To see it with my eyes”  and the devotee asked  “Have you seen your   entire   body?”
He said “definitely” and the devotee asked”Are   you able to see   your back side?”

The student sheepishly said , “No”  and the devotee asked  “Are you able to see ,
Your front side   completly”  and the student   with great  irritation told  “Yes”,
The devotee asked,”Are you able to see your face?” and  he said “No”,
Devotee  did not leave it at that “ Suppose  you want to see  your body, what should you do?”

The student said, “Stand in between two   full length   mirrors   and ten I will be able to see”.
“Similarly” said the devotee , you need   to have two mirrors to see   that God also “
The student said , he would buy   them immediately , if he is told   where to get them,
And the devotee  said,”They are  grace of God and grace of teacher and  without  ,

Grace of teacher   you cannot feel or see  grace of God   which is everywhere.”

Twenty four Gurus of Dathathreya Avadhootha

Twenty  four Gurus   of  Dathathreya Avadhootha

By
P.R.Ramachander

Based on the  information in  http://muneshkumarkella.blogspot.in/2013/05/lord-dattatreya-and-his-24-gurus.html)

Once  there   was a sad  king  who approached ,
Many Gurus    so that  he can learn to be happy,
But in spite  of all efforts   , he failed  miserably  thinking  all Gurus are useless
But one day   he met  a great  saint Dathathreya in the forest.

He seemed    to be rolling in great  joy and the king asked  him,
“Sir   from which  Guru  did you learn to    be so greatly happy.”
And that  saint replied  “I have   twenty   four Gurus  ,
And from  each of them  I learned  something   great”

The king was   greatly surprised   and   asked ,
“Great one  , May I know    who those   gurus  are?”
Daththreya  laughed and told  , “The  five elements  of nature,
Moon,  Sun, dove  , Python ,Honey bee . Honey thief,
Birds of prey , ocean ,moth  Elephant , deer  ,
Fish , Dancing girl , child  , unmarried     girl,
Serpent  , arrow smith  , spider and wasp.

The king    wanted to laugh  but  controlled  it,
And asked   saint Dathathreya  ,” May I know,
What you learnt   from each of them  ,
So  that  I can find a suitable  Guru and the saint replied.

“Earth taught    me   tolerance  , patience and forgiveness,
The Air taught me  art of moving everywhere without   getting  influenced by bad  qualities,
The sky taught me   broad  and limitless  vision  and  freedom from dark things like the cloud below you,
The water taught me  how to remain pure, take colour  of surroundings  and  create gentle waves while speaking,
And the Fire taught me   to shine in darkness  and  destroying all  bad  ideas thrown at me.”(1-5)

“The moon taught me   as to how to  remain unaffected  while growing big or small,
The Sun taught me that God is one  but is seen as many  like its reflections in different pots,
The piegeon reminds  me how  two of them died  by jumping  in to hunters net , by trying to save their kids.
And taught me   that   attachment    to any thing   blinds me   from logical thought  and  destroys me.”(6-8)

“The Python patiently   waits   for its food   and swallows   anything   that comes its way ,
Not bothered about its taste or size  and it taught me   to wait   patiently  for knowledge  of all sorts,
The honey bee visits   several flowers   collects honey without hurting them  and it taught me,
How to wander   from  door to door   begging for alms   without troubling   the householder.”(9-10)

“The honey thief   comes   and collects   honey stored   with effort  by honeybee  with great effort,
And he teaches me not to   collect   wealth   and store  it   for    a future  which no one has seen,
The birds of prey attacks the   weak bird   which collects   the food    and keeps it  on his beak,
And it teaches  me not to collect and hold   but  eat what  we need   and fly away happily.”(11-14)

“ The ocean taught me to collect   huge  knowledge  and maintain my  humility without   growing   big or small ,
The  moth taught me not to rush at things when they are attractive  and   get destroyed by  those illusions,
The Elephant taught me to avoid passion  and not get destroyed  like him when he jumped  in the pit to be with a female  elephant,
The deer due to its love for music was  snared by the hunter and  it teaches me not to get   attracted  by mundane things.”(15-18)

“Due to its  attraction to taste  a fish is caught  in the hook and it taught me  control of Toungue so that I am not troubled,
The dancing girl  making money selling her body got peace  when she gave it up  and it  taught me
The need to abandon   expectation from others,  The child taught me to get pleasures  from very simple  things,
The maid who had to remove bangles from one hand  while pounding    to avoid any noise  ,
Taught me   that  I should preferably live in solitude  so that me and others   are not disturbed.(19-21)

The   serpent taught me to live in solitude and not   getting bothered   by giving up my body(its coat)
I learnt from an arrow smith who did not   even know   , when he was working   that king has come to meet him,
I learnt from the spider  which makes the web and later eats it ,That  God creates   as well  as destroys
The caterpillar caught by wasp  teaches me that  by only thinking of one thing  , we can become that thing,
And the king stopped   lauging and understood that   if we    are  a receptive   student  ,
Everything   we see  can be our Guru   and started living happily like many Gurus he saw.

Psychology of attachment in a small family.

Psychology  of attachment in a small family.

By
P.R.Ramachander

(My face book friend  Hamsabai SAnthana Krishnan wrote of a similar game where  only the wife plays it. I have   expanded    it as a  game for the four adult members of the family. You may not agree with my conclusions   and if so please tell the verse number   and   your conclusion of this four member game.)

1.One family counsellor     was trying to teach ,
A group of  middle age   students about ,
Whom in the world    they considered  as  most important,
And summoned a  man, his wife  , his father   and  his mother,

2.He had   arranged   for four different   black boards ,
So that   each of them   did not know    what others are  doing.
And then he    told each of them    to write  on the black board,
Names of thirty  people   whom they considered as important personally for them.

3.The four of them without    spending much time   wrote  ,
Thirty names   of people and  the man apart from his family wrote  his collegues,
The wife wrote apart from  his and her family  names    of her  own neighbours,
The father and mother  wrote mainly names of their near  relations , on both sides.

4. Counsellor asked each of them to remove    five names from the board,
And without any hesitation  they all did     it  in a jiffy.
And this process  went on some more    times
And  in each board    names    of  only  five    people were left.

5.The counsellor told each of them to remove one more name,
The man removed   the   name   of his mother   from the  board,
The wife removed     the name   of her father in law,
The mother   and father     removed names of their grand son.

(why asked   the counsellor?
Man said because my wife and ma quarrel  with each other,
Wife said because his mother can look after   the kid but not pa,
Mother and father told  , we need son and daughter  to look after us)

6.The counsellor   asked them to remove   one more name,
The man  removed name of his father  and she removed the name of his mother,
The father removed  his wife’s name  ,
And the mother removed   her husbands  name.

(why asked   the counsellor  ?
Man  and wife  told , we three  wanted to live together,
Father said , even if she is not there , the others would look after me,
Mother said , even if he is not there , the others would look after me.)

7.Again the counsellor asked them to remove one more name,
Weeping  and crying the man  removed his wife’s name,
Weeping and crying   the wife removed  her son’s name,
And the father and mother   removed the name of daughter in law.

(The counsellor asked the man , why?
And the man  replied , I can get another wife,
The wife replied  that  she can possibly get a son but never   a  husband,
And the parents replied that  their   daughter in law  ,
May not look after   them, if their son is not there.)

The Kali age

The  Kali age

By
P.R.Ramachander

(  Read this old story as posted by my friend Bhanu Ravi  and made some modifications and additions. Thanks)

Four Pandavas  except the eldest   after  a great rule in Dwapara  Yuga,
Started   ruling  in the Kali yuga  and they wanted ,
To know    how   the Kali yuga    would   be,
And asked “how it would be?”  to their  greatest  Guru  , Lord Krishna.

Lord Krishna then said   he would show them how   it is,
And sent four arrows   to  each of the  four directions,
And requested   each of them to go   in one direction,
Search for the arrow  sent by him   and bring it back.

Bhima went first   went and saw    one well   surrounded ,
By  another four wells  and though the well in the centre  was  ,
Full of  very clear   good water , the wells surrounding it were dry,
And BHima   could not make  any thing out of it and came back.

Arjuna   went in another direction and heard a pretty  song of a bird,
And he was shocked to see   a Koel  singing as well as eating  a white rabbit  which was suffering great pain,
And Sahadeva    went in another  direction  and saw  a cow,
Licking   its  own just  born calf   creating  blood oozing wound on it.

Nakula  went in yet another direction and saw  the arrow near a mountain,
And when he took it  a huge stone rolled from the top   and ,
Could not be stopped   by huge trees  but was  stopped  by  a grass plant
And each  of these   four Pandavas   explained   in detail what they saw ,
And asked their  Guru and friend   to explain   “what is  meant by these ?”

Krishna  smiled and told , “Bhima  in Kali age   there  would be very rich people  ,
And extremely poor starving  people   but the rich would not  give anything  to the poor,
Just like the  well   in the centre   was full of water  and not giving  to  starving   wells,
And Oh Arjuna  , in Kali age  religious Gurus   and teachers   would talk in a sweet attractive voice,
But they would be engaged  in torturing  and deceiving others like    the koel did to Rabbit.

He continued , “Oh Sahadeva  in Kali age the parents   would   cause   harm ,
To their children by blind love and would never realize  that it would cause  harm to them”
He then said to Nakula “In Kali age  people would behave  without restraint  like that  stone,
And  nothing  huge and  big would be able to stop them , except  God  who is like the tiny grass.”

And then Lord   Krishna   took all   the four  of them to sage  Vyasa,
Who was bathing  and as soon they reached  he told “Those  in Kali age  are lucky”,
Then he took a dip in the water   and said  “Women are  specially  lucky in Kali age.”
He took  one more dip and told “The devotees of God   are lucky in Kali age”
And after  bath he explained    a thousand year  THapas  in other  ages,
Is equivalent   to one day THapas in Kali age   and   a Lady who would find .
Going to heaven difficult  un other ages can go there  just by serving  her husband.
And a devotee  in Kali age need only tell the name of God once , instead of daily several times in other ages.
And he    said    That   is the reason that  I told  that Kali and Lady are lucky.

How the Barber shaved off the pride of the Pundit

How the Barber  shaved  off  the  pride  of the Pundit

By
P.R.Ramachander

(Self pride  is poison  and it kills   you soon. I read this story written by my face  book friend  Anantha  Narayanan . In this translation , I have not been able to   get the magic of his  tamil  words  but I hope  I have brought out his message.)

Long long ago , there  was a  proud Pundit,
Who thought  that  he  is the most learned  one,
And no one would   know   as much  as he knew ,
He had bushy eyebrows , huge moustache  and partially  bald head .

He used  to wander  here   and there , to find people ,
So that  he can prove   to every one, that his  knowledge  was greatest,
And as   soon as  his head is seen outside  , all people,
Used  to flee so that , they were not intellectually  tortured.

One day   with lots   and lots of difficulty i he could ,
Locate  a barber   sitting below   a tree  and doing his work,
But what  irritated   the pundit was  that  the Barber ,
Appeared  intelligent   and   did not get  scared  of him.

Pundit approached  the barber   and asked  ,
In a contemptuous tone  , “How much  you charge  for your work”,
And he replied  “Two rupees for a  hair cut  and one for a  shave.”
And then Pundit told him, “ ha, ha  Please   shave   my head for one rupee”

The barber laughed  and told “That was  a very intelligent choice”,
And started   his work and when   the Barber    did  not get  angry,
The Pundit was disappointed   and wanted   to  teach him a lesson.
And asked “You do  your work with a knife   and how come a  bar in your name?”

The  Barber did not get annoyed  and told  , “True  our job is cutting  ,
But we  with our barb*  we have  to keep   the clients    entertained  “
And this reply irritated  the Pundit and he  further  continued  his barb,
So that  he could prove   to the Barber  who is  more superior.
*sharp retort

He asked the barber , your job seems   to be only cutting,
And are you the biggest   cutthroat   of this town?”
And the Barber  replied “No sir , I only cut hair  and not  the throat”
And this  made Pundit    loose his temper   and he  raised  his voice.

The Barber could guess   his temper   and  fondled  ,
The moustache  of the Pundit  and asked “Do you want this?”
And since the Pundit was   very fond of his moustache  , he said “yes”,
And the Barber  shaved it   and gave it to him “Please  take it  “

The pundit was shocked   and  did not  know what to tell,
And the Barber   then touched the  bushy eye brows  of the Pundit ,
And asked “Do you want this?”  and since Pundit felt  that if he says “Yes”.
The Barber  will cut it off, he said “No”  and the barber  again cut them off.
And said, “Since you do not want it  , I have helped  you by removing it.”

Seeing his  very ugly look of a  fool in the Barber’s mirror,
The Pundit gave  him one rupee  and   went back home,
Not to come out  for several days and he  understood,
“Our cleverness  and wisdom is not  to tease others   but to help them.”

Dedicated to all fathers

Dedicated  to  all fathers

By
P.R.Ramachander

(Mostly translated   from the great write up  of my face book friend  sri Anantha  Narayanan. Thanks Sir. I did shed a tear  remembering my father)

It is very easy   to become a  father but it is difficult to be a father,
The courage   and stability  every one gets  is from their   tap root called father,
The  roll model for every one in  almost  everything is  only their  father,
And because of this father  is the greatest   gift every one gets   from God.

He   at any time   would be equal to   thousands   of teachers to their  children,
AS he   is the lamp that  always shows  the way in darkness of the path of  their life.
To bring up their children  the way they want  a father  carries very many crosses,
And the pain   that  he  gets  when those children disregard him is  inestimable.

A father  dedicates  all his life to  his children and always thinks only about their future,
And  because  of this  , though his  love  and affection  is in no way less than that of the mother,
He  keeps  it as a secret  and shows   himself   as some one who is   very strict  ,
And keeps on   shouting  and correcting them though his mind sheds  blood  at that time.

The Plants   called children would   grow up luxuriously   if they get    the light ,
From their  father  who is the Sun  and  water  of affection    from their   mother ,
No doubt  no one can love   their children as  much  as their mother  ,
But  their love makes  them blind to the  wrongs  committed  by  them,
And it is the father   who  stifles  all his love within himself and corrects   their wrongs.

If Our   society   or religion   gets  a good person to nurture   them ,
You can be rest assured  that behind them is a father who puts on the mask of a tormentor,
For    just like an elephant’s strength   is in a trunk  , the future  good citizen’s strength  is in his confidence,
And this  river of confidence  in every person minds    starts   from the mountain like father.

This confidence is   got by every child  when it takes  its first   step  holding hands of  their father,
And they learn   to fall , get up   and bear   the pain  of the wounds    from their   father.

This society can never have   a good man without the healthy   cooperation ,
Of Affection as well as  the strength  of the mother    and the father ,
A mother carries the baby   carrying it  on her hips so that  she can always see  him,
And the  father  on the other hand  carries it on his shoulders  so that  , they would  be greater than him.

A child   till   it becomes   parent   of other   children never  ever realizes ,
The  amount of loan taken by the father  to fulfil  his/her wishes,
The struggles   that  he underwent to repay   back those  loans,
And the number  of sleepless  nights  he spent  wondering how they would fulfil  the desires  of their children

IN the hairless   exterior of   their heads ,
In the  cracks   of their feet , which  gives them pain,
In their hands   where  the blue  and red veins  are clearly seen,
And in the   silver   like moustaches   of our   fathers,
The struggle that  our father  underwent  lives  with great  peace.

He would have hidden hundreds of such   pains so that  their children do not become sad,
He would have worked day and night  producing extra  sweat  to  fulfil  the desires of their children,
He would have daily struggled and  tortured  their  body  to pull the cart  of the famly,
Their hearts would have wept  when before their son wakes  up  he had  go to work   and return  only when they are  deep in sleep again,
He would   have constantly undergone  mental torture  when  He goes to some other country  ,
Leaving their children here  , so that  their children  would not suffer  like him.
Imagine how cruel   his life would  have been when  he sees   you all only in the photo of all of you  pasted   on his cot

A   young man  without asking gets    the gifts
Of valour  ,, courage . work  without losing hope  , confidence   and struggle to work,
From their good father    even without asking for it?
Even when   his child grows up  and becomes an adult  , a father  sees them as his baby   and  guides him in every  step of his life.
He says, “Do not get scared?””Do not be break down , whatever may happen” because  I am there for you,
These are the daily orders  and commands   from him to them  so that , they  would never suffer.
Even if a father  becomes old , and becomes  not able to walk  , he never   forgets to tell these words. For he knows  that for  his  children his voice  is sufficient.

Fathers  are,
1.The resting places of the burdens of their children,
2, They  are  their  hop step  and jump poles
3. They are  their main axils  ,
4.They are  the suns to them
5.They are  the  direction boards  to their children
6. They   are  their teachers
7.They are  their confidence
8.They   are their  hope
9,They  are the ones who show undiluted affection,
10.They are  the ones who show  interest which is not artificial
11.They show your path with honesty
12.They are your just thought
13.They show  affectionate  hospitality
14. They   are their stable  confidence
15. They  tell you words   that do not   hurt
16.Their advice  is superb
17.Their laugh is not with deceit
18. Their cry   is truthful
17They brought you up with  mind full of joy
18.They   are  the ones   who helped you like a friend

Please , please   shed a drop  of tear  to that Pillar of sacrifice   which lifts  you up  as  long as it lives   and falls down one day when its job is  over.

Our maternal grandma

Our maternal grandma

Written from a  great poem in “Nam Nagarathar  Group”
By
P.R.Ramachander

( Nagarathar   are great business  community of Tamil Nadu  who  are extremely rich and extremely  cultured . Their contribution to Hinduism  is unparalleled . Do you know that Ganges water   from Allahabad  is taken daily to Kasi Viswanatha  Temple for anointing  by this community. They also are  maintaining  the great Visalakshi temple  in Varanasi. The  number of temples they have   got repaired   in India is countless. I have made the poem   a general one  , by  deleting references to that  community  in the  original poem.
Please  read  it and all of you would start  the  great contribution that  the maternal   grand mother  does  in each of our lives and we all wish to thank her   again  and again.,)

I have   several relations like  ,
Aunts, uncles, brothers  , sisters  and cousin,
And I have always seen my  maternal grandmother ,
Always  obeying each and every one of them,.
And this is a small effort  in eulogizing her  by a poem.

When I was spending  my time,
Sleeping in the womb of my mother.
Oh Grandma who with  great care and concern,
Did   you not wait   for pregnancy to end.

Oh Grandma   who was greatly  supportive,
To my mother  to deliver   me out,
Oh Grand ma  who carefully   served ,
My mother  whose   entire  body was paining.

Oh Grandma who cooked food that does not  harm,
My mother who  was  still  not  completly Okay,
Oh Granma , who advised  her how   to,
Take care of me with care when I was a little babe,

Oh Grandma  of love and affection,
Who trained  my mother to properly feed,
Me   when I was  hungry and crying ,
And made  her   an expert  in taking care of me.

Oh affectionate   grandmother  mine ,
Who used   to get jittery    and tense  ,
If I cry  even after  taking milk thinking,
It may be insect bite  or indigestion  or stomach ache.

Oh Grand mother   who told   my mother,
Oh Daughter  do not get nervous ,
And do not make a big list of what it could be,
This is the way he would cry   for different problems.

Oh Grandmother   who  was  never  greatly bothered,
Whether I was given birth with love  or just like that  ,
Or   in a way   without   any problem whatsoever ,
And    would take   care  of me  with all attention.

Oh Grandma  who was  good and well-bred,
Who used  to invite the   entire village,
Take  them all inside the home  ,
Made me wear  silver anklets  and bangles  ,
And also made me wear  small  golden ring in my fingers,
And used   to become very happy  ,
After   kissing me with love  and handing me  to her daughter .

When my uncles   children ,
Were  down on earth and crying,
Oh Grand mother   , you  used  ,
To always keep me on your lap.

You would make  me sleep  ,
By singing lullaby , “Oh Gold,
Oh gem , Oh new   diamond  ,
Oh garland of flowers   made,
Of golden bells  which is difficult  to see,

Oh  grandma , you never used to bother  about yourself,
With a firm   conviction that   my comfort are much more important.

I have   never forgotten any of  my summer holidays,
And I have never spent my vacation without going to Grandma’s home.

Though you used   to play several  times  ,
Snake and ladders   and the game of Pallankuzhy,
Seeing the laughing   faces of your grand sons and  daughters,
You  would always   get   defeated  in those  games.

Every day   and every minute  you used to  got joy,
When you offer    several   and several types ,
Of sweets  and savouries  that   you make  after great toil,
And see   us eating   all of them  with great glee.

Without ever    forgetting  , Oh Grandma  ,
You used   to tell us   about the  greatness and fame of father,
And also tell us    in detail   the religious rituals,
That we   have to adopt  by telling stories  after stories.

When after   spending vacatin with you ,
When we  all refuse   to go back to our  homes,
Hiding   great sorrow   in your mind, Oh Grandma,
You used   to send us all back to our mother’s home.

The Sweets like  Manakolam and   the  unbroken Murukku,
THenkuzhal  and   cheedai that you used  to send with us  ,
Would greatly sweeten our  toungues for a  long time.

Right   from  the time   when we were  little ones.
Till  we grow up   and till we get married ,
You used   to suffocate  us with tonnes of presents.
With out getting any pay and   without taking any gifts,
You  were  the full time   grandma   for us ,
And you used to toil   for the next generation ceaselessly.

With   experience   as   your only  education,
You used   to be a maternity  lady doctor,
Then  as paediatrician   and expert  ,
In bringing up  and nurturing your grand children.
You    would also   cook various  types of dishes  ,
And  we have never seen you taking  any rest at any time..

Summarising   you were  always  much greater  than a robot ,
With one terahertz speed  and  several   gita bytes  memory  ,
And  I am seeing you  grandma as a great philanthropist  .
