Woman –the greatest gift got by man from God

Woman –the greatest  gift  got by man from God

Rewritten  with minimum changes  from a  Facebook post of Meena  Krishnan entitled “Woman”- If you like  it the credit   goes to Smt.Meena  Krishnan

She  changes  her name  for you,
She uproots  in to your home to be with you
She  comes  away from her family, leaving all  that is dear to her,
She becomes  pregnant  with you child,
She gives up her beauty and becomes fat,
She undergoes  unbearable  pain  to bear your child ,
She works like a  slave   to look after  you  and nurse those kids,
She toils  like a servant   to do family chores since you are busy,
She looks   after  your dad  , your Mummy  just like their  daughter,
She    learns  the lessons of your kids    to  coach them ,
But   have  you any time told   that  she works  hard,
Have you any time  appreciated  her toils of love,
Have   you ever  told her that she manages  the house well.
Have you   ever   understood  that  she is God’s  priceless  gift to you,
For
Wonderful  mother  and wife she is ,
Outstanding worker , servant     and friend she   is  .
Most efficient   daughter  to her  and your parents   she is,
Adorable  manager   of family   affairs   she is  ,
Nicest gift  to you , your kids   and to the   world she  is.

Please  , please   do not  consider  her as an utterly   useless  thing ,
Please   do not consider   her  as the machine  giving love to you ,
Please do not consider  as  a switched on Robot   doing work  for   all of you
And
Please  love her , respect her, appreciate  her, help her and be a part of her.

Is it just Oh Lord Shankara??

Is it just Oh Lord Shankara??

( I consider  myself  as a very ordinary person   who is in love with God . I 100% believe   that what all has been done by me  is done by God not me. I consider that God is the computer  operator and I am his key board. So when I read whatever has been written by Mannargudi  Sitraman Srinivasan , I felt the author has so correctly written the feelings towards  God in my mind , I  just translated it in to English(God made me do it)   and every time  I read it , I feel, how true it is?  )

You   are standing  there  as my mother ,
It is more than Suffecient oh Shankara.

After making  me write  about you meaningfully,
After making  me who is nothing   as a thing ,
And making others  appreciate  what I have written,
You are  becoming happy, Is it Just Oh  Lord Shankara?

After   you  your self completely   doing  ,
The creation, writing  and giving  it a form,
And seeing many appreciate  me  ,
Who is a but an actor  moving his lips ,
You yourself   are enjoying it ,Is it just , Oh Lord Shankara.?

When I was  absoulutely useless  and knew,
Nothing except you  , after teaching me  every thing,
One by one  and not showing it outside,
You are seeing me from your hiding place , Is it just oh Lord Shankara?

After  receiving   all these   from only you ,
When I have become  a simple machine,
Transmitting to the world and seeing me ,
Blessed by everyone , you become happy, Is it just Oh Lord Shankara?.

You are the  only one who can transform a twig of a grass.
In to a huge   cyclone  and  after   doing that ,
You   are  pretending   that  you have ,
Not done anything . is  it just Oh Lord Shankara?.

Ahalya  Got redemption only  after Rama’s  feet,
Touched her  and just by the fall of your glance ,
On people  , they  have got salvation  and you,
Are acting as if   you have nothing ,
To do with it all, is it just Oh Lord Shankara?

After   showering   the rain of  golden affection,
On me  as if to prove that “Even for a  crow,
Its  child is a golden child “, you stand  like a mother there,
Telling “Is there a devotee like mine?”, Is it just Oh Lord Shankara?.

A dark girl Questions a dark God – What made you do it?

A dark  girl  Questions  a dark God – What made you do it?

By
P.R.Ramachander

I Just saw a posting in face book of my friend Sri  Parthasarathy Krishnan  writing a commentary  on the great song of  Poet Kannadasan  titled “Karumai nira kanna..” IN that song a Girl who has been created as black questions   Lord Krishna (AS black as the water  rich cloud)  as to why  he created her.  I liked the commentary better   than the poem itself  because I always did not understand  why the cursed  colour differences   are created by God in India. Possibly even today  the God will not have the answer . I am first giving the  versified translation of the commentary of Sri Parthsarathy,His commentary in Tamil, My poetic translation of Kannadasan’s song   and then transliterated original song of Kannadasan

I.Why God did you create mr black?

Oh  Krishna
There are none who would want  not to see you,
But  There   are none   who would want to see me
OH Krishna ,
There  are  none who hate you after  seeing you,
But there  are none  who love me   after  seeing me,

Oh Krishna .
It is always   welcome to you,
And always  no entry for me

Oh Krishna
No one can see  my good mind,
But  all of them  only see the colour of my skin,

Oh Krishna ,
The people   to whom I belong hate  to see me  ,
If Woman means prettiness, what am I?

Oh Krishna ,
You are  not worried, for people come to see  you made of rock,
Was there  any need for  you m, to create me as black.

II .Commentry on song “Karumai nira Kanna” by  Sri Parthasarathy  Krishnan.

III.My poetic translation of  “Karumai nira kanna..” By  Kannadasan

Ok Lord Krishna    who is black,
No eye  wants to not see you ,
No one says “no”  to you,
No one sees and hates you,
But  no one can tolerate  me.

Oh Krishna  , you created me  before those who do not like to see me,
Oh Krishna , You gave to me to those people  who see colour and hate,
Oh Krishna, you forgot  to see the clan and made me join with them,
Oh Krishna , you chose a  very good place and sat there as  satatue.

Oh Krishna   , you gave me   a mind which is  golden,
Oh Krishna, inside  that mind   you kept   flower  like thoughts,
Oh Krishna  , you  made all those  in such a way  that no body can see  them,
Oh Krishna, You created  me , possibly for pay off  my debts

The travel of a sparrow( a human being ) to its/his land of dreams-a poem

The travel of a sparrow( a human being )  to its/his  land of dreams-a poem

By
P.R.Ramachander

( We as human beings are nowadays prepared  to loose everything  including our happiness  and culture  to reach our land of dreams .Some of us reach there  and lead a life of sorrow and others  like the sparrow fall on the way . I got the  idea from posting of  Hamsabai Santhana Krishnan.
Each verse of the travel of the sparrow is followed by   the travel of the man. The sparrow loses all its wings and falls on the way   and the man reaches there  after losing  everything he has  including happiness.)

Your flight   to your  dream land
One pretty  ,  and cute sparrow   saw,
A dream land   far , far away,
And it wanted to go there  very badly ,
And  started to fly towards  that dream land
(A man of the modern times   brought up,
In the  waty of tradition , saw a land of dreams,
And he   wanted   to go there   very badly ,
And started  he a journey   to that land)

The sparrow did not know   the way to the land,
And on the  way met a  great   astrologer and asked,
Would you tell me   the way to that  dream land,
And he said   yes, if you give me a  feather of yours,
The dream crazy sparrow  gave one feather  and flew further
(The man not knowing how to go    to the dream land of his  ,
Went   to the home of a   Guruji  great and asked,
Can yyou show me how  to go to my land of dreams,
And he said yes , provided you desert   your family  traditions,
The dream crazy man gave up his family traditions  to go up there.)

The sparrow   flew further  following the way of astrologer,
But found  after  some time that   its dream land was far far away,
And then it saw   a snake  , with its   open hood and asked him,
“Can you show me the way to the  dream land of mine,
The snake did but    the sparrow  lost  one more of  its wings,
(The man who gave up his   family tradition   tried by his best,
But Still found his land of dreams   far , far away   and ,
He met an agent  , whose job was  to send people  and asked him ,
“Can you send me  to my land of dreams?” and he did,
But the man had   to desert  his near and dear ones  and his land.)

The sparrow  proceeded further  , asking various  people on the way,
Directions to reach its land   of dreams  and to each  one,
Who showed  it the  direction , it went on giving a feather each,
And at last   the bird jumped with joy as   it could see its  dream land nearby.
(The man proceeded   to the land of his  dreams , asking help from  several,
On how to reach his  dream land and   to each one , he had to give up ,
Jolly times with his family , wonderful   food that he   used to eat,
The affection of  his parents , the deep respect he got from his younger ones,
And so on and on   but he jumped with joy when he saw his dream land near by.)

But the sparrow could not fly   to the land of its dream,
AS it had lost all its   wings and ability  to fly and cried.
(The man  reached his land of dreams  but having lost ,
All his joy   and peace  , suffered  daily in his land of dreams )

Cure for Husbadaitis Virus disease caused by “Shopamania ladylarum”

Cure   for Husbadaitis  Virus disease  caused by  “Shopamania ladylarum”

( The  first curse   and its cure)

By
P.R.Ramachander

(I rarely   write  anything like this  but an announcement  of husband   care centres when wife is shopping  made me write it. It is all purely fun as I know several males  who are shopomaniacs .)

God   created  a man ,
The man cried  for a  companion,
God took a bone    from him  ,
And created   a pretty lady  out of it

Possibly   that  Man  was   really  happy,
To   play   , laugh   and dance  with his ,
New companion   , who was  pretty and sharp,
But the joy  of man was   short lived.

God  opened   a shop  of juicy  apples,
And put a board  “Not  for eating  ,
If you do you   would  be cursed.
But  the lady   was  interested in shopping.

So when God the   shopkeeper  ,
Was looking   hither and thither ,
She made  the man  who was  her man,
Steal    the   apple   from the   shop.

God the  great majesty  who was divine ,
Not only    sold apples  but also curses,
Which were   given free    to the person,
Who took   the  apple from his   shop.

He cursed  the man who stole  his apple,
“ shops would   come all over the world ,
Which sold things  that  you may not like ,
But   would be liked   by her immensely “

The world suddenly    changed  ,
Shops , department shops   and malls ,
Whose  only  intention in the  world ,
Was to attract   the fairer sex appeared everywhere.

They stocked  Saris  in thousand   materials ,colours and designs,
Chudis, Kurthis  , jeans , gowns  , nighties   and other dresses,
Milions  of  materials   that  assured  all women ,
That if we use them , they would be the most beautiful,

All  women ladies  , lasses   and  little girls  ,
Wanted to spend   all their  time  in these  shops and malls ,
The men were  prepared  to work hard ,
So that  they  earn money  to send them for shopping

But   the  members  of the fairer sex  who were  better half,
Wanted  their male  companions    to come along with them to shop,
So that  all of them  are safe  , could  keep an eye  on them,
And also   approve  of their  choices and lastly   carry the purchase  home.

The Man first  cursed  the  shops  and malls  which were  troubling them,
Then those  fairer sex without   whose  company  they cannot live  ,
And then the God  who inflicted  all this punishment   just  for a stolen apple,
For   he was  bored and  bored stiff for being   forced  to shop  without stop.

God , who also did not like  to shop  , took great  pity on them,
And told them ,”  do not worry , I would make shopping pleasant for you.”
He waved his magic wand  and suddenly  in all Malls and shops,
New  crèches  for men appeared , where they can be left  by their wives and daughters

The crèches  were  filled  with  eatables  , choice drinks,
Gambling casinos , Hundreds  of young and old to chat ,
Movies  and songs   , just   for you to  order  and watch,
And also sapthahams, BHajanais  and Harikathas   for the old.

God made ladies happy  , because  they can shop without worry ,
Men happy  because  they never  could otherwise enjoy all  this fun,
The owners  of the stores,  shops and Malls  as their earning increased,
And  the huge multinationals  who ran these  crèches   with great profit.

The marriage day eve for a bride and the transplantation shock

The marriage day eve   for a bride  and the transplantation shock

By
P.R.Ramachander

I saw this great write up in Tamil   regarding the last day   of a bride  in her home by  I S Anand  , my facebook friend. I was moved to tears  and remembered  how my sister, my wife   and my daughter   would have gone through  that home transplantation shock   from one home to another home .The idea is of my friend , words   are mine. Thanks my friend.

From the day  of her engagement  she was flying in heaven,
Chatting   with her husband    to be whom , she left she loves,
Visiting   shops after shops buying  jewels   and  dresses,
Romantically chatting    with   her  unmarried friends,
Being teased   by married  elders  about  her love life ,
And with all this   she was  floating  in the sky tinged  with  nectar

Two days before the marriage   day , when every one in the  home was busy,
She was left  alone  in  her corner  of her home  to swim in her dreams,
Little edgy and little apprehensive   off the marriage   as well as  her life afterwards ,
She decided   to  go round her   familiar  home , nook by nook,
With a strong feeling of distress  , since she felt  she is going to miss a lot.

With her pretty broad eyes, made pretty by the  beautician  and darkened by Kajal,
She   roved  her  eyes in all corners  of the home  and a  tear drop fell from it,
Her  younger sister  greatly in  ecstacy due to new cloths   and new jewels,
Who used to fight for the share  of everything  their  parents gave her ,
Rushed to her    and hugged her  and asked her “What happened sis?’
And   the tears  in her eyes rushed out thinking , “How much of  the affection   she will lose,
with whom she will fight  in her would be’s home?”
Her mother then chided her, “Milk is boiling  on the stove, where did you go?”
And she felt sad that  she will no more   hear  those  affectionate fault finding ,
And the tight  hug   with tons of affection, which came after  those words.
Her father   who was busy   was talking  in phone with some one,
And she quietly   went and   sat  near her   and her father,
Even while talking told  her, “Little one go and call your mother.”
She thought  , “Where  will  I get   the affection  of this   father,
Who looked  serious  but used   to tell  her almost  every day,
“Tell me  whatever you want , I would definitely get it for you.”
She swallowed her tears  and the salive  which came out ,
Summoned her  mother  and sat pensively near  the  stair case.
She heard from a distance   the affectionate  shout of her Grandma,
“Tomorrow  is your marriage , do not sit there  anf get black in the sun.”
Normally  whenever  her grandma   told her  anything  , she used to frown,
But some how she    did not feel like   frowning   today   and felt like crying.
Grandma who came  near her  caressed her   with her  hands  which has folds,
And told “Darling mine  , what happened to you now.Did  I hurt you.”
She could not tolerate any more and  ran inside her home  crying,
“Mummy I would remain here   and not go any one else’s home,
I am scared   as to jow life would be like    there in his house.”
Though   she never felt   her father  was anytime  close to her,
He sobbed  like a  small child and her sister  childishly told,
“Sister  , please  do not worry, that uncle would look after  you well”
Though  mummy was silent she could see  that her  eyes were  wet.

That night  her mother  cooked all  the dishes  she liked and fed g her like a child.
She was not knowing   whether   she was going to a heaven tomorrow ,
But she definitely knew that  sge was leaving   an affectionate heaven here,
She realized  that marriage was an event   in a  groom’s life,
But in case of the girl , it was  a transplantation  and a change.
She may   not struck roots there   and possibly wilt,
But most probably  she will put new roots  and grow luxuriously.

Go to Kathalaya, Bangalore to hear stories and to learn how to tell stories.

Go to Kathalaya, Bangalore   to hear stories and to learn how to  tell stories.

By
P.R.Ramachander

All  of you must be knowing  how simple is to teach  children by telling them stories.Once upon a time  it was a job of Grandpa and Grandma   to tell stories  , because   they did not have  any job to do .Much much before   the world knew about art of story telling , India knew it. In fact  one of the greatest collection of folk stories of the world   called “Brihat Katha Manjari” (The huge  bouquet  of stories) “ was written in a language  called Paisachi ,  which existed prior to Sanskrit . You all know how  India kept the lamp of  her religion burning  bright   through story telling –The story of Rama, The story of Krishna, The  Story of the goddess  and so on,. When  majority of Indians did not know how to read  Sanskrit  , a group of minstrels  called Hari Katha  exponents roamed  all over the country telling these   stories  to the common people in the common language. Yes, the art of story telling still exists in India but a time has come when we are  not able  to attract modern children and lads and lasses  by following the traditional method. So there came a need  for a group of expert  story tellers with sophistication,.Kathalaya (the home of the stories)   grew out of that need. Smt.Geetha Ramanujam nurtured   the story telling plant called Kathalaya. Now it has grown in to a huge banyan tree   with several branches as there was  a need for such a tree. Kathalaya  realized that  it cannot go to all places   to tell stories and train people. So just like  teaching the art of growing food  is better   than direct supply of food to people, Kathalaya   started  training people  to tell stories. I understand  70,000 opeople have been trained. Here   is a Small  poem that  I wrote   about them:-

Once upon a  time in the state  of  Magadha,
There  were  five princes   who were   fools ,
And the king wanted  them to be made  wise,
In a period  of   six  months sharp.

A great wise man undertook    that job  ,
And  told   the  five princes  within that six months,
Five stories   which  encapsulated lot of  wisdom,
And at the  end of that period , those princes  wise.

Are  there  any such great  tellers  great ,
Still  in our country  vast  and great ,
Who would be able   to make   all of us ,
AS  wise  as those  princes of   yore.

Yes , there  is in this  city of Bangalore,
And she   runs  Kathalaya-the home of stories,
She was  once upon a time teaching school kids ,
And she found  that  the best way to teach kids,
Was to tell  them  a story  so that  they understand.

Once she told , Hey children learn lot of lingua  ,
And they did not understand   and were staring at her,
She told them how  when her kittens   were attacked,
By a fierce dog, the cat barked   and chased him away and they understood

She started  telling them stories   to teach science,
She made the difficult maths  easy through stories,
And all  the kids   who came   to know  her,
Felt at ease  to learn  everything to stories.

Knowing that    she alone cannot   transfer knowledge ,
To each and every one    , by telling them stories,
She   started   teaching  lots and lots of people ,
How   to transfer  knowledge   to others  through stories.

All the world   sent their teachers  to get ,
Trained under  her  so   that  the struggle,
They  used  to have   to train  every one ,
Became easy  through   story telling.

The Banyan tree   of the “Home  of stories”,
Grew   every where   by striking    roots ,
In Very many countries of the   world,
And  awards and recognition  for it grew

This organization is in Bangalore . So you can always  send your children to heat their stories  or even get trained  by that  Institution. You can contact them in Bangalore:-

THe first talk of Daughter in law to mother in law in 2060 India

Future  Indian daughter  in law of  2060  would perhaps talk to her  mother in law like this –God save us?

Composed  by
P.R.Ramachander

This  frank talk of the daughter in law to her mother   illustrated   here would not take  place for another 30-40 years  ,By that  time the present day daughter  in laws   would be mother in laws . Even then  due to the  great culture of India , such things may not happen  .But I  am simply showing  you all  a horror film .

After  a grand marriage  of rituals , fire offerings,
Mehandhis  , Sangeeth     and   dances ,
The daughter in  law   did come  to her in laws home,
And was received  with great  fanfare by her mother in law.

The Dil  showing  no symptoms  of the illness of shyness,
Told her Mil , “Thanks    for receiving  me like  this,
But  before I start  my life in this measly house,
I would like to tell you  that my stay is  to be  very short here.

I am sorry   to say this  and I hope you will excuse .
I do not  like the way  that you  decorate  the house,
Nor the way   that  you are maintaining   it.
And your home  is not  the home that  I  Dreamt

I  have    much higher   income than your son,
And  when we add it to    the money your  son brings,
It would   be greatly    plenty  and substantial,
And so    we both   would be moving  to a better house soon.

WE also would   take  loan from   the bank and  credit card ,
And furnish the   homes    as per   our joint dreams,
We would also be   employing   several servants  ,
As well as  a cook , so that  we can relax  and be comfy.

Most of the  time  only   servants   would  be managing  the house ,
As we both   would be away    from morning   to night,
But we would   surely find  a little time  in weekends,
But  we would be  busy with marketing   and dining out .

Apart   from the   regular   work   that we both will have,
I also have  to find   time   to   chat   with my friends  ,
Going to  beauty  parlour, visiting  my own house ,
And all other  chores which all women do.

Please do not worry at  all  , for  we would be seeing you ,
As the guests   to all the parties  which we  propose to hold,
And also you  can join us   for  lunch or  dinner  ,
In five star  hotels , provided   you are dressed  well.

Once in a while    you   and father   can join us,
Either   to stay with us  or when we  go on trips .
Since we both families  would be staying in same town,
And if you are  sick   or need our  help  , we would defiantly help you.

We are  not planning    to have any kids  immediately  ,
And when    we  two decide   to   have  one,
Your help would  be needed  very much by us,
AS my parents   are   not used to such chores

Apart from that  when   your son falls   sick  ,
I may not    be able   to take care  of him,
AS my commitments   to the office are great.
And  we both look forward to your stay with us then.

Oh my dear mother  in law  ,  times have changed,
And you have  to learn to adjust to that,
I am sorry    that   I have been  unusually harsh,

But  unless  I tell them, my life  would  be  miserable.
