Summary meaning:Here again apart from locating oneself with reference to time , one locates himself with reference to place also.We are supposed to live in Jambu Dweepa, Bharatha Kanda which is south of the great mountain Maha meru. Then again this Bhasratha Kanda is blessed with many holy rivers and holy places. Then prayer is done to God to pardon sins committed by word, thought and deed, because this was done inspite of his great grace which made us be born as human beings after several wheels of birth. Also the sins performed during several ages in life is highlighted. Some of the sins specifically mentioned are those done while earning money without conscience, giving money to improper people, actions which did not suit the caste we are born in, sins due to non performance of actions which ought to have been done and so on. We pray God and tell him that we would take bath in holy pure water and then start the veda parayanas which is our duty as Brahmin.

4.Yagnopa veetha dharana manthra

Though these are essential part of Avani avittam , I am not giving this because Vedic manthraas are very diffcult to transliterate in to English and reading them wrongly would be counter productive.

It is very nice of you to have posted avani avittam manthram in your Raja Thatha's blog. As regards Kamokarsheet japam, it is suggested that people should be asked to recite the japa 1008 times and if not possible 108 times.

as usual, you have done a very noble service for the upkeep of dharma, enabling people near and far to adhere to tradition.

Raghavachary said...

Respected Sir,

All Brahmins are grateful to you for your kind service.

A humble suggestion for your kind consideration.

The very purpose of wearing new thread on Avani Avittam is to have the minimum qualification to perform Sandhya Vandhanam, all 3 times of the day. Therefore Sandhya Vandhanam should remain the focal point during Avani Avittam as well as Gayathri Japam. On Avani Avittam day, after Madhyanniham one has to complete the daily Thiru Aradhanai and Neivedyam to the Lord; thereafter carry on with the Tharpanam.

Similarly on Gayathri Japam day, the 1008 (or 108 in some cases) times Japam should be part of the morning Sandhya Vandhanam.

Performing Sandhya Vandhanam is essential for every Brahmin, failing which his papams (sins) get multiplied.

Once again, sincerely thanking you with my humble pranams.

Thanks a lot for posting this. I am a student living in the US and ur blogspot has made it possible for very many students like me living in far off places to do avani avittam. By doing it remotely and by ourselves also brings a good deal of satisfaction both to self as well as our parents in India who want us to follow all the traditions.

Just inqusitive: are there any tharpanams missing.

My bad, saw the tharpanams in the appendix.

Hello Raja Mama,
We came across your Avani Avittam posts and it was a pleasant surprise to learn who Raja Thatha is from the picture (obviously I had guessed from the name). Well, this is Hari (Remember....Bangalore.... Gopi....). While you do the guess work, I will wait. And of course thanks a lot for posting the mantram.

I live in UK, how should I chant the following in sankalpam - "Jamboo dweepe, Bharatha varshe , Bharatha kande,"

Kerala Brahmin said...

I totally agree with you. But we do not have any guidance regarding this either from from our elders or Mutts. Till we get it , that seems to be the only option, Ramachander

Raghavachary said...

This is regarding the query from one NRI in UK on the sankalpam to be followed.

As per learned elders, all Indians, irrespective of which part of the world they reside, should adopt the standard Indian sankalpam, just adjust the day, thithi, nakshatra etc to your location, but rest of the Sankalpam is unchanged from India.

There were also some comments regarding Gayathri Manthra. The purpose of this Manthra is for our own welfare, and for the welfare of the world at large. Query on number of times (10, 28, 108 or 1008) is rather focussed on minor inconvenience, and it should not be so. This is not a commercial thing that is negotiated. The more you do it, the better for everyone, you, your family and the society. Which is exactly why thri-kala Sandhyavandanam should be performed without fail.

Hope this information is helpful.

Kind regards
