(Abide With Me, a decades-old staple tune at the Beating Retreat ceremony and said to be a favourite of Mahatma Gandhi, does not figure in the lineup announced by the government on Saturday for the January 29 musical extravaganza that will feature a raft of military bands marking the end of Republic Day celebrations.)

“Aye mere Watan ke logo “ was a song written by Kavi Pradheep in 1963 and Sung my
Smt Lata Mangesh kar.

(This song replaced a song starting “abide with me..” in the songs of the “Beating of retreat” song.
I am giving its rough translation as well as the lyrice of “Abide with me..” below it

Hey people of my country, Please raise your slogans loudly
This is a good day for all of us
Spread our very dear flag
But do not forget the souls of ourvalorous soldiers

Do remember them a little
Do remember them a little

Those who do not return home
Those who do not return home

Oh people of my country
Just fill your eyes with water
Those that became martyr
Just recall their sacrifice

Hey people of my country
Just fill your eyes with water
Those that became the martyrs
Just recall their sacrifice

When you recall the Himalayas
The danger filled freedom

Till they had breath , they fought
Till they had breath , they fought

Then they sent back their corpse
Keeping their head on the ground,
Slept those who sacrificed
Those who became matyrs
Just please recall their sacrifice
When in our country was celebrating Deepavali
They were playing holi

When we were sitting in our home
When we were sitting in our home
They were bearing the bullets

They were our honourable soldiers
Their youth to them was rich
Those who became martyrs
Please recall their sacrifice

Some sikh , some were jats and Marathis
Some sikh, some were jats and marathis
Some were Gurkhas and some from the south
Some were Gurkhas and some were from south

Those who were dying in our borders
Those who were dying in our borders

Each soldier was an Indian
The blood that fell on the mountain
That blood belonged to india
Those who became martyrs
Please recall their sacrifice

When their wound was fatal
Still they raised their Gun
Each of them killed ten each
Then they died loosing their breath

When their end came
They said, we are dying now
When their end came
They said , we are dying now

Those who love the country , be happy
Those who love the country , be happy
Now we are only going on a journey
Now we are going on a journey

What mad people were they
What people were they who were proud
Those who became martyr
Do not forget those people
Do not forget those people
That is why this story was told
Those who became martyr
Do not forget those people

Hail India , hail India
Hail the army of India
Hail India, Hail India
Hail the army of India

Abide with me (earlier tune)

Abide with me, fast falls the eventide
The darkness deepens Lord, with me abide
When other helpers fail and comforts flee
Help of the helpless, oh, abide with me
Swift to its close ebbs out life's little day
Earth's joys grow dim, its glories pass away
Change and decay in all around I see
O Thou who changest not, abide with me
I fear no foe, with Thee at hand to bless
Ills have no weight, and tears no bitterness
Where is death's sting?
Where, grave, thy victory?
I triumph still, if Thou abide with me
Hold Thou Thy cross before my closing eyes
Shine through the gloom and point me to the skies
Heaven's morning breaks, and earth's vain shadows flee
In life, in death, o Lord, abide with me
Abide with me, abide with me
