1.Mangadu (Mango
forest)
It seems once
playfully Goddess Parvathy closed
the eyes of Lord Shiva and the entire
world was plunged in
darkness.Later Lord Shiva asked the
Goddess Parvathy to go to earth and do penance to again attain him.
It is
believed that she came to Mangadu near Madras
and started doing penance in
the middle of five flames of the fire (four surrounding it and Sun from above) .Become pleased with her penance Lord Shiva
asked her to move to Kanchipuram and worship him in the Linga Form.Along with
Lord Shiva , lord Vishnu also came along
with gifts to his sister .He was prevented from accompanying his sister to
Kanchipuram by sage Markandeya and he
has teple near Mangadu Amman temple and it is called “Vaikunta perumal temple”,He is also called “Seer Perumal” (The
lord who brought Seer to his sister)
She went to
Kanchipuram made a lInga out of sand and
started worshipping Lord Shiva.Once
there was a flood in the river and the Goddess worried
that the Linga would be swept
away , Hugged the
Linga for its safety. The lord was
pleased and took her back .This form of
Lord is called “Thazhuva
Kuzhaintha Nadhar”(The lord whose
mind melted when he was hugged) “
But the fire in
which the goddess was doing thapas was
burning and all round that place there
was severe famine .When Adhi Sankara
was passing by that way , he realized the problems, made an Ardha meru Sri Chakra and
transferred the negative power of the place to it
and from then all the place became very green and normal.
A great temple
was built at that place. Devotees
have four Ambikas for darshan in the temple.
1) As Sri Chakra,
2) Adhi Kamakshi made of Panchaloka metals,
3) Kamakshi doing penance amidst the five Agni Kundas and
4) the small Lamp burning near Adi Kamakshi revered as Ambika Herself.
The darshan of all Ambikas can be had simultaneously from the mandap. Ambika in the sanctum sanctorum is holding a parrot in the right hand and the crescent moon on the head.

As we enter
the Temple, we find the Ganapati Shrine to the left of the main entrance.
The pujas for the chakra is performed with sandal and other cosmetic powders
and archana with kumkum. On the Vijayadasami day, last day of Navarathri, this
Chakra is covered with gold, while on other days, it is with a silver cover.
Sri Chakra occupies great importance in the temple. This Artha Meru Sri Chakra is revered as Raja (Royal status) Yantra. The base is of Koorma (tortoise) design. There are three steps above the base. It is further built with 16 Lotus petals and 8 petals of Lotus still above. The Sri Chakra is drawn on this peeta-seat. No Sri Chakra is as big as the one in Mangadu. It is dressed with a 9 yard sari.

The Mangadu Temple & Shrine
After this we proceed to
the temple 'Tapas Kamakshi" - This was installed at the behest of
Kanchi Paramacharya. We can also see the various other deities like Lord Surya
etc, in the outer courtyard. As we circumbulate the Temple, we can see Sapta
Matrikas installed right behind in the Main outer courtyard and walk through to
the Dwajastambha installed in the Eastern side.
People come
here to pray for Marriage, child birth , long saumangalya, getting job etc. Devotees normally purchase a Sari to the Goddess and give it
to her .There is a peculiar six weeks worship in this temple. Like every god
having a particular method of worship, this Goddess likes the six week worship.
During the first week along with betel leaf, betel nut, coconut, flower, banana fruit, you have take two fruits of lime. And perform Archana in the temple. The priest along with coconut fruit etc would give back one lime fruit. We have to bring that fruit home and worship it daily.
When we visit the temple next week, along with the lime fruit that was given earlier, we have to take two more lime fruits and give it to the priest. He would return one fruit. We can perform Archana or not as per our convenience. This should go on for six weeks. On the sixth week, like the first week we have to take, betel leaf, betel nut, coconut, flower, banana fruit, you have take two fruits of lime and also a flower garland. Apart from this we have to take well boiled milk, sugar candy, eatable camphor, and honey. And all this should be offered to the Goddess. They would not return the lime fruit this time.
The priest would return the milk. This worshipped milk should be distributed to all possible devotes in the temple. Devotees believe that this like giving milk to the Goddess. Every time we go the concerned song has to be sung, because these songs were composed before her and have been approved by her. If this is done our desires would be fulfilled. It would be better if we go on the same day of the week during all the six weeks. But this is not a must.

I have Translated tw
versions of prayers of the Six week worship of this Goddess x
’After completion of the visit to the Kamakshi Temple,
devotees proceed to the Vaikunta Perumal
(seer perumal) Shrine or the Shrine of Lord Vishnu which is about 500 meters
away. Here Lord Vishnu can be seen in a seated posture along with his 2
consorts Sridevi and Bhoodevi holding a ring in his palm that he has brought
for the marriage of his sister Kamakshi. This is a small temple with separate
shrines for Goddess Lakshmi, Sri Andal and Lord Hanuman.
Another Temple neat by is the Velli Easwaar temple .This is a temple of Lord
Shiva,It is believed that when
Shukracharya lost his eye when he
prevented Dhana to be given to Vamana , he came here prayed and got back his eye .Since
Shukra is planet
Velli , this God is called Velli
