        I  am not  a philosopher. I am not trying  to answer whether  I am the body or   the soul

My father was living  in a village  called Chelakkara. He had purchased some land   and one house there.Once he asked ., “Konthe, do you know   who I am ?”

I said  “Ofcourse  ennodu  appa”(ofcourse  my father)

He then brought   the deed  of his purchase  of property    In both  deeds , he was  referred  as

“Para  desi  Brahmanan Puducottu  Rama Pattar  makan     Rama Pattar”  .My father told  he is  legally this  person and I am his son 

Then  he  explained

All  tamil  Brahmins   in Cochin state   were  referred   as  “Para Desi  Brahmanan “ to differentiate   them   from Nambudiris

Then it clearly indicated that my grand father was from a village called  “puducode” and it indicated  that my father   was from puducode,

Then it said we are  “pattars”-  the malayalm   word   for Tamil Brahmins.

I am son of that” Puthucode Rama Pattar,” which name   was changed to “Puthucode  Rama Iyer “when he went  out  of kerala.

Most  interesting thing is in my 80  years  of life  , I have  visited Puthucode  10 times   and have stayed  in Puthucode  for just  3 days

There  was  a boy    from a  middle class family,

They all  struggled together   to send their son ,

To one  of the top computer  institution of the city,

And the boy also very happily  went and joined there.

Suddenly they   found that their son  was getting  tired,

He started getting angry  at every body  and he  started,

Absenting himself    from the classes and avoiding,

Doing the home   tasks    given by   the Institute

The father started   shouting him, mother  consoled father,

Went to the institute  , talked  with  the trainers  ,

And later one day she   watched   her son in the institute ,

Without  his knowing and she  had some inkling   about her son’s problem

The next day mother  took the son with her  to a marriage ,

Of their rich friend and both of them   sat  for a great feast.

There  were so many  wonderful items  including  dishes,

Which they have  not seen   at any time  in their love.

In the middle of the feast  , the mother stopped  taking the feast

And went away and the son  finished  his   food without any interest ,

Later  met his  mother  and asked  her , what happened  to her?

She said that  she was upset   and did not like   to eat  .

When the son insisted she told, “I had just  began the food,

Some people were  eating the sweets and some even completed it,

And  I felt bad   that  I am not  like  them  and  got away.

He asked  , “How can you be like every one  , some are slow  and some fast”

Son continued, “You should have eaten  in your own pace  ,

Never  comparing  yourself with others”   and the mother asked,

“Why are  doing  that  in your institute ?”  , Here  the food is  free,

And  there we pay  fifty thousand  per month”

The son understood and said, “Mummy  , from now  on,

I will not compare  myself   to others and I will work,

To my best  possible extent” Mother smiled  and said,

“I am hungry, I will take   the feast once more and come back”

(samudhra guptha was a great king.He had four wives  , one from each caste. His eldest son Bharthru hari was from His hudra wife.In the death bed  Samudhra guptha  was seen crying.When Bharthru hari asked why, he told  that if his son from Shudra  wife gets a son, he will go to hell.Bharthru hari promised  that  he will not have a son. He married 1000 ladies  and practiced  family planning  .At that  time he wrote a  book called  Sringara  SAtakam( 100  verses  of love).Once  a  saint gave him  a very special sweetest mango fruit. Bharthruhari gave it to  the queen he most loved.In the evening , he saw that  one maid servant was carrying this special fruit keeping it on the top of her cow dung pot . When Bharthru hari made  enquirues, he found out that , his horseman was lover his  queen and so she gave the  fruit to him. The maid servant whom he saw was the lover of the horseman and so he gave it to her,

Bharthru hari took Sanyasa , gave the kingdom to Vikramadhithya   and went away  .After  taking Sanyasa  he wrote another  great book called  Vairagya SAtakam-0 the hundred verses of renunciation. These  two oft quoted verses    are from Vairagya Satakam)

आदित्यस्य गतागतैरहरहः संक्षीयते जीवितं
व्यापारैर्बहुकार्यभारगुरुभिः कालोऽपि न ज्ञायते ।
दृष्ट्वा जन्मजराविपत्तिमरणं त्रासश्च नोत्पद्यते
पीत्वा मोहमयीं प्रमादमदिरामुन्मत्तभूतं जगत् 

Though with the rising  , movement  and setting of Sun  Life  gets shortened,

With   the burden   several   day to day activities, we do not feel the passage of time,

And even seeing  birth , aging , accidents and death , fear  is not felt in the mind,

Drinking  the intoxicating  wine   of delusion, this world  has become insane.

आशा नाम नदी मनोरथजला तृष्णातरङगाकुला
रामग्राहवती वितर्कविहगा धैर्यद्रुमध्वंसिनी
मोहावर्तसुदुस्तराऽतिगहना प्रोत्तुङगचिन्तातटी
तस्याः पारगता विशुद्धमनसो नन्दन्ति योगश्वराः

There is a river called desire,  fancies of the mind   is its water, the thirst  for more are its waves,

It is filled with the terrible   fishes  of desire   and passion,

Argument and counter arguments puts a stop to its flow,

One wave of this  river uproots the tree of courage of man,

Desire and passion drags him     to the land of   complete ignorance,

And there he dashes   against  the rocky reefs   of thought 

And the great yogis  cross   this  river  with pure mind and meditation .

Sa vai nisreya sasya  they,

The   way that  has been indicated by your mother,

Is the one that is  leading to highest good,

As indicated by the  great  Vasudeva   himself,

And so   worship him  with a mind  fully dedicated to him.

5. No of babies, learning  of Vedas  and Puranas

Aham puraa Bharatho nama Rajaa,

Vimuktha drushta srutha sanga bandha,

Aaraadhanam Bhagawatha eehamano,

Mrugo abhavam mrugasangaadh daraarthaa      Dasakam  5  chapter  12     sloka 14

I was in my  earlier birth  a king named  Bharatha,

Who got detached  from all  groups of attachments,

And tried   to  worship   God  in a manner,

But was born like this   due to my attachment to a deer.

Thaisthaanya ghaani poojanthe,

Thapo dhana  Japaadhipi,

Naadharmajam thadh druthaye  ,

Thadhapee  saangri   sevayaa  .  Dasakam 6  chapter 2   sloka 17

Though  a person does  propitiation  of his sins,

By doing worship, penance  , charity and chanting,

There  is a small  vestige  of the sin left in  him,

Which can be removed only by service of God’s feet

Prahaladha  uvacha :-

Sravanam, keerthanam  vishno,

Smaranam, Padha   sevanam,

Archanam  vandhanam , dhasyam,

Sakhya mathma  nivedanam      Dasakam 7    chapter  5   Sloka  23

Prahladha said:-

 Hearing  about Lord Vishnu  , Singing about him,

Remembering about him  , serving   his feet,

Worshipping him  , saluting him  ,  serving him,

Thinking him as a friend And  dedicating one’s soul   to him

8. Avoiding widowhood , long life span , regular income

Namo namasthe akhila  karanaaya,

Nish karanaaya, adbutha  karanaaya,

Sarvaagamaamnaaya  maharnavaaya,

Namo  apavargaaya  parayanaaya.        Skandam 8   chapter 3   sloka 15

SAlutaions  and salutations  , to the cause of all,

Who is not a cause  , who is a wonderful cause

Who is  great ocean of   all sruthis  and Smrithis,

Salutation  to him who is the heaven and  great refuge

Thadho manu sradha  deva,

Samjnayaamaasa   Bharatha,

Sradhaayaam  janayaamaasa,

Dasa  puthraan  sa  aathmavaan    Skandam 9   chapter 1  sloka 11

Oh Bharatha  ,  Sradha   deva   was born to

Viswaaan   from his wife   Samjnaa,

And to him who had   a great mind

Was born Ten sons  who were intelligent.

10.Fame  Business fame  , travel

Thasyavanijya charanou thadapa swamoorthaa,

Bibrad jagath guru tharopi sathaam patheerhi,

Brahmanya deva ithi yadh guna  naama yuktham,

Thasyaiva yas charana soucha maseshatheertham.  Skandam 10  chapter  69  sloka 15

Lord Vishnu  washed   the  feet of Sage  Narada   and sprinkled it on himself,

Though  he himself is the teacher of the world and  always  the protector,

And though the  name   god  of Brahmanya   was   appropriate  to him,

And though    the  river Ganga originating from his feet is the  great sacred water

11.  capability  to have more income  , Elder sister

Jnanam viveko nigama  sthapascha,

Prathyakshamaithi hyam   adhanumaanam,

Aadhyantha yorasya yadheva  kevalam,

Kaalascha  hethuscha thadheva  madhye. Skandam 11 chapter 28   sloka 18

Wisdom  , right judgment,  the Vedas  and penance,

Constitute   the means  of  attaining   knowledge,

And that knowledge  which was earlier  and which is going to be,

After the deluge is the cause  of that and  is the real truth.

12, Pleasant life  , death   sorrow  and sleep

Nama  sankeerthanam yasya,

Sarva papa  Pranaasanam,

Pranamo dukha,

Cha manastham  namami  harim param   Skandam 12   chapter  13  sloka 23

The singing  of Hari’s name  ,

Completely   destroys   all sins,

Drives away   all  sorrows,

And so  I am humbly saluting Hari

Lord Vishnu  is considered as 4 (conch, wheel  , lotusand mace)  and Lord Shiva is I  and their joining  is 41

The solar  year is 365 days  and the Lunar   year is 324 days.The difference between them is 41 days and there is an opinion that this is Mandala  period

Lord Ayyapa went in search of Mahishi on Vrushigam  1^st  and he took   41 days   to find her .This period  is mandalam

Doctors feel that  it takes 41 days  for the food we take to digest and become   flesh and blood and it is believed  that the Vrutha   for 41 days  purifies   our  build up  of our body.

It was  the year  1995 .Desk tops   were  available  but no google search   to find out  information  about  various things.

  I was  working  In Indian Institute  of Horticultural research .I   though  we can collect information   about   cultivation practices  of various  horticultural crops and put in computer.My director encouraged me  .I started  visiting  several  centres  of  South India to  collect  the needed info.This took about an year and then  editing  , and loading all that information took  another 6 months because only one desk top was available with us 

Once loaded   I wrote a programme   which would give all types on info about  various crops .WE started loading that info as   well as programme  in disks.

Whenever a farmer approached  for info, we used  to take a print out  of his need and give it to him..I was surprised to find a news item anout in India today magazine of 1996

Rama   went to live in forest, the kingdom became that of Bharath,

The friend  request of Sita came and reached  Lord Rama,

लक्ष्मण चैटिंग विद उर्मिला , भूले सारे काम 

डांट खाई प्रभु राम की , शुरू हुई तब ख़ोज

Ravana used  that opportunity  and took mother Sita far away,

When Rama  did not get reply  , he reached the hut,

Lakshmana   while chatting with Urmila   forgot all jobs.

He was banged by Rama and the search   started then.

सिग्नल के अभाव में , जीपीएस था लूज़

इसी बीच सुग्रीव से ,  हुई एक मुलाकात
दोनों के दुःख एक से , हो गए दोनों साथ

बाली का स्टिंग किया ,किया पुलिस के हाथ
दूर किया सुग्रीव का , बरसों का सन्ताप

Due to absence of Signal, GPS   was loose,

In the middle a meeting with sugreeva took place,

Became they had same type of sorrow, they became together,

And several years sorrow of Sugreeva   was made  far away

आँख में आँसू पाय के , पवनसुत परेशान

लंका में नेटवर्क का , नही हुआ विकास
बन्द है प्रिय का फोन , होवे कैसे बात

Seeing Hanuman, the Lord Saluted him,

Nd seeing tears in his eyes, Hanuman became sad,

The Net work of Lankd had not developed,

And  so phone of my darling is closed, What   shall we do

परेशान प्रभु हो नही , मरेगा वो रावण
खत्म होगा ये युद्ध जब , लगेंगें वहाँ टावर

हनुमान उड़के गए , दिया रिलायंस का सिम
माँ ने प्रभु को फोन किया , दोनों बातों में गुम

Oh lord do not get worried, Ravan will be killed,

And when the war ends, we will  erect a tower there,

And Rama went there and gave  a SIM  of reliance,

Mother  nade aphone call to lord, and both of chatted

रावण के गुर्गों ने , पकड़ा श्री हनुमान
आग लगाई पूँछ पर , बिफर गए श्रीमान

स्वाहा किया तुरन्त ही , सोने का वह होम
रावण डिप्रेशन गया , कैसे भरेगा लोन

वापस आकर राम को , बता दिया सब हाल
राम ने बोला मित्रगण , साफ करो हथियार

The Gurkhas  of Ravana  caught hold of Hanuman,

And when he put fire on his tail, That gentleman lit fire everywhere,

He immediately returned, and mage his Home  in to gold,

Ravana went in to a depression, how shall I clear the loan,

Hanuman returned  back and told all news,

Rama told, Oh friend, clean your weapons

धनुष बाण काफी है , क्या होगा परमाणु
लंका जब से जल गयी , रावण है कंगाल

पूरी सेना चल पड़ी , लंका फतह को आज

There was plenty of bows and arrows, what will happen to Bacteria,

Ranka has already been burnt, Ravana is in the fire pot,

All the army went,they identified  Lanka

सुग्रीव लकी हनुमान , करते ऊँची आवाज़

जीतती सेना देख कर , लक्ष्मण इन उत्साह
देख रहे मेसेज तभी , बाण से आई मुरछा

Sugreeva and Lucky Hanuman made huge shouting,

And Lakshmana enthused by seeing winning army,

Was  reading the message,and hit by an arrow fell down

हनुमान उड़ कर गए , बाबा जी के पास
जड़ी बूटी के लेप से , लक्ष्मण खड़े थे आज

Hanuman Stood up    and went to the Doctor,

Due to ointment of roots and sticks, Lakshmana   Stood up then

राम ने मारा बाण तब , रावण गिरा जमीन
बोला प्रभु माफ़ी दियो , कृत्य गलत था कीन

राम के स्टेटस में , आई एम विद माय लव

Rama hit with an arrow, Ravana  fell on the ground,

Lord said, I pardon you, who does not do mistake

In the status of Rama  IM  wilth love

मेरे एक प्रहार से , मर गए दुश्मन सब

वापस पाकर सीता , पहुँचे अपने धाम

By just one hit of mine  , all enemies are dead,

He  Got back   Sita and reached his home

पूरी प्रजा दीप जलाकर , करती है सम्मान

आसमान से देख के , वर माँगे " शशांक "
अर्पित चमक प्रभु चरण , न हो कभी थकान !!!

The entire population lit   the lamp and honoured him,

Seeing   the sky   , The moon (author of this poem)  asked for a boon,

And dedicated the light at the feet of the lord, Never will there be tiredness

1.Mala Dharanam

    Wear a thulasi beads  or Rudraksha mala  through Guruswamy or parents or  priest  of the temple

2.Observation  of vritha for 41 days.  (This has to be done  under direction of Guru Swami)

   Daiy take bath  twice a day , wear  basmam followed by pooja and saranam  vili and

 

During the vritha observe celibacy  , wear black cloth and lead a  modest life

1.Do  not address  any one by name/relation

           All men are  Ayyppas, all  women Malikappuram

2.Do not consume  Non vegetarian    food

3.Do  not consume   food prepared   yesterday

4.Do not srink alcoholic drinks

5,Do not   smoke

6.Do  not take oil bath

7.Do not shave  or Haircut

8.Do not  get angry  at others

9.Do not tell  lies

10.Do not attend  death ceremonies

11.Do not   tease  or chide any body

12. Do not  make illegal money

13.Do not commit sins
