Sruthivani  is a great  magazine  run by  Kerala Brahmin  association  in Trichur .It  is an extremely  popular  magazine   doing  very great  social service  to Brahmins in general    and Kerala Brahmins  in particular

 

    I belong to a small  village  near  Trichur  and consider  that  it is a  blessing of God   that  they decided  to publish  an article about me.This appeared in pages 45-46  of Stuthivani April  2021

 

   Since many  of you may  not know Malayalam, I am translating it in to English  and posting it here

Thousands  of Hindu  spiritual books and stotras   are in existence  in Sanskrit  , Tamil , Malayalam and  Hindi are   all over the world. P.R.Ramachander who has translated about 2000  of them is familiar to those  who read  stotras on line

 

  Apart from Valmiki Ramayana, Kamba  Ramayana, Adhyathma Ramayana  , 21 upanishads, he   has translated  Bhagawad Gita  , Devi  Mahathmya, Narayaneeya, Jnanapana, Krishna  Karnamrutham, Rudram, chamakam, 21  Vedic sukthas and  65 famous  stotras  written by  Adhi Sankara. The full name of  P.R.Ramachander  is  Puducode  Rama iyer  Ramachandran

 

    The Grand father  of P.R.Ramachandran was a native  of Puducode of Palakkad  District and later he shifted   to Chelakkara  of Trichur   district.

 

     P.R.Rmachandran the son of Kunju Rama Iyer  of  Thekke madam Chelakkara  was  born on 10th  January  1940

 

   His school education   was in Chelakkara  SMTHS and St.Mary’s  School, Hyderabad. Later in 1958  he was student  of  Kerala  Varma  College  , Trichur.   Later he passed out post graduate  in Mathematics   from Annamalai  university and  completed post graduate  course  in Statistics and economics from Indian  Statistical  Institute , Calcutta. In 1964, he completed  his doctorate  from IASRI  in New Delhi (I did a pre doctorate Diploma)

 

      After serving 35 years  in different ICAR  institutes of the country, he retired from official  service  in 2000..During this time , he had published  four books  and 150  research papers. Taking in to account  his research contribution  an organization in England, gave him  a honour  as “scientist  of the  millennium”

 

   After retirement the thought that he should spend his  retired life in spiritual  aspects and the good of society, made Ramachander reach the idea  of translating stotras, P.R.Ramachander  thought that  by doing this he can lead  the future  generations  in to the spiritual path. Since he got good feed back from society, he is greatly  contended  and happy.

 

It was   during this time that  the idea  of  translating  music compositions  in various  languages germinated in him . By making it  realistic , by this time , he has translated about 1950 music   compositions. In this he has translated  almost  all  compositions of  Saint Thyagaraja

 

      Apart   from this he has  translated about  100  compositions of  Purandaradasa  and ooothukadu , This is a great  blessing to students  of Sangeetha  all over the world.

 

     His wife Smt Jayalakshmi is always with him in doing these  good jobs  .His son Rameshchander is in  Florida. P.R.Ramachander is living in Bangalore   with his daughter Meera Priya

 

    The efforts  of P.R.Ramachander in nurturing and protecting the spiritual   and  Music field, are   extremely  important.

 

  Because the  sincere activities  of P.R.Ramachander  in preserving the  Indian culture and civilization , they  would stand   as long as the world lives, Let us salute before  his contribution in the area  of Spiritual  and musical fields

Yes, we did happen to read the coverage in Shrutivani. People of such acclaim must be recognized by the society. We are duty bound to go through (at least a part of this translation) and imbibe this to our children as well
