A great Documentry on Vedantha Desika

A great Documentry   on Vedantha Desika

By
P.R.Ramachander

Sri Muktha  Ravi  , who is the son  the famous director  Sri Muktha  Srinivasan   and who is my face book friend, invited  me to see the great documentary   he has prepared  on the great  Acharya  Vedantha desika

It was a thrilling   experience   to me as I am a great   fan  of this   great  Acharya. Here   are some points  that  I want to make

1.The act  of the great  religious scholar  Sri Dhushyanth Sridhar was simply superb. Even the   greatest  stars of the screen would not be   able to show  the emotions he has  pictuarised.

2. The  conversation of the  picture is in mani pravalam ie a mixture  of Sanskrit   and  Brahmin lingua. THis was   the language  used for conversation used  by the people   who lived   at the period of the great acharya.Feeling that  many people   would not understand it fully   theproducers have added  captions in English. For people   who can read english  , this seems to solve the problem greatly  As  a person who talks  Talayalam( Tamil mixed with Malayalam which is 80% Sanskrit)  I did not have any problem.

3.The film opens with a pretty song of Annamayya  .Later  unable to get  a child, the parents of Desika   approach their Guru, who tells them to pray Lord  Venkata. The seemantham of his mother  is tastefully pictiarised  ..She then sees a bell going inside her  belly in a dream and her Guru tells that  she is going to get  a great scholarly child .From then on the growth of the desika , his   arguments   with   several scholars of different relegions and belief is pictuarised well .Many of desikas  great stotras  are sung. He gets married  and  gets children  and is honoured  by his acharyas   abd great temples. After this the foreign invasion of the south  to destroy their temples and plunder  all their wealth  is clearly pictuarised. It is shown clearly as to how Desika saved   the great Sri Bashya   by fleeing to Karnataka .The last scene is the going to heaven of the great Desika

Very great job in the 750th year  of the great  Acharya  . Iwish more and more people    are  able to see   this saga of a great  Vaishnavite sage

Please see  a trailer  of the  film https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7WmeB3YM8r8

The miracle of “Whatsapp”

The miracle of “Whatsapp”

Translated   by
P.R.Ramachander

(I enjoyed  this  Hindi  poem about  Whatsapp)

It connected   all  the broken relations,
Those relations which were broken  several years back,
Were made   in to family   group,
“Whatsapp” has done miracles

All the   friends of school joined together,
Heaps  of thoughts  were  found,
Joy  filled groups   were   made ,
“Whatsapp” has done miracles

Science and humour has become  sharp,
Even word Bhondhu(silly person )   became english,
The  copy-paste   did the magic
“Whatsapp” has done miracles

Wife become  busy with phone,
Even husband   vanished somewhere  in it,
Fighting and quarrelling came to an end,
“Whatsapp” has done miracles

Kammu Saw her Grandma

Kammu   Saw  her  Grandma

By
P.R.Ramachander

(This is based on an incident reported as real in face book by my friend. I feel that it is not true as no parents would be that much cruel to their mother .)

A grandma  called her granddaughter  Kamala as Kammu,
And Kammu loved   her grandma too, too much,
Daily coming from school she  would rush to her  grandma
And tell her what  all  happened all   day in the School.

Then Grandma   would feed    her little Kammu  ,
Several dishes she    liked   daily  , and Kammu,
Would tell her grandma  all that   she liked to have ,
For the next   day , and her grandma  would nod her head

One day    when Kammu   came   from school ,
There   was no Grandma to receive   her  ,
But  a servant   was there  with  some dishes,
For her to eat , but Kammu  hated   them all.

Kammu asked   her parents about her  grandma ,
When they both came   from office  , and they told,
“Grandma  wanted   to visit   her relatives in another town,
And  how can we see  no, and so we have taken her there.”

Days passed   and daily  Kammu   used to cry   for her grandma,
Till her parents came  and she even gave  a letter  to be posted to her grandma,
One day her school took her along with her class to an old age home  in a nearby town,
And in a dilapidated corner  Kammu saw her grandma wearing dirty cloths

Kammu  weeping and crying  rushed    to her Grandma ,
Who was herself   crying and weeping to see  Kammu,
And  sobbing Kammu asked her “Why Grandma here?”
And she replied, your parents brought me   and put me here.

A wail from a Keralite under deluge to his lord

A wail  from  a Keralite under deluge    to his lord

By
Sri K.S.V.Krishnan

Translated by
P.R.Ramachander

Long  long ago taking   incarnation,
Of BHargava  Rama  you created this Kerala,
Oh Lord    who exists  in the form of Guruvayurappaa,
Please   protect   this  land of Malayalam
You please   protect  this land  of Malayalam

Even if they   have done  mistakes and errors,
Are not   all of them your babies,
Would you not excuse and pardon  ,
The  crimes   that have been committed  by these babies,
Would you shower your mercy  on us?

Who is there   as support   to us  who are suffering,
Oh friend of the suffering , who is there  in this world?
Oh Partha sarathi   if you   neglect   us,
Oh destroyer  of  afflictions , if you neglect us,
To  bring us to the shore  from this deluge

Just  like   you saved   Gokula  ,
From  deluge caused  by Indra’s rain,
On Krishna    , you should save  us ,
Who are  suffering  in this deluge  under your umbrella  ,
Please   give us  your  protection

Thankanna

Thankanna

BY
P.R.Ramachander

Thankanna was the first son of my father’s athan ProfC.V.Subbarama  Iyer. His mother died   on the day  that he was born .His father was at that time Professor of  Mathematics   at the University   college Trivandrum . Finding it difficult to bring up the motherless baby  , his father married again  and they called  the baby boy as Thankappan  and  to all of he was Thankanna.
Today is Thankanna’s 100th birthday. Thankanna was brought up  in Trivandrum  and  he used to tell me that he had attended the marriage of my parents. He must have been around  14 years then. Later  he took his Ph.D.   in mathematics   and almost life long worked    as Professor   and   Head of the department of mathematics  of Sri  Keraka  Verma  , College  , Trichur. Prof.Subbarama Iyer became the Principal of university college and  after   retirement  settled down in Chelakkara. During school vacations when I used to visit Chelakkara  , I was constant vistor of Athan’s home   with an intention of playing  carom with his sons and also read   books from the huge library that he maintained. It was in this house  that I met Thankanna and Manni first. The love between us was at the first sight .Thankanna and manni liked me and i liked them.
After a few years I joined  intermediate  in Sri Kerala  Verma college  and Mathematics was one of my subjects and as fate   would gave it, My thankanna   taught me  mathematics ,He always  wore a well maintained suit   and always used to come  to the college  in a Rickshaw drawn by a very old man.   To all my classmates  who attended classes in Dhothi he was  Mountbatten Prabhu. I as the Ammanchi Kutti of Thankanna knew that the  Rickshaw  travel was  only a  method adopted by Thankanna    to finance the old  Rickshaw  puller. Most of the time he used to walk  and empty Rickshaw used to follow him.
In the college Thankanna  used to tell me very often   that Manni wanted me to visit his home ,These  visits made me close to his elder children Nringa and Babu   ,As a great teacher  Thankanna had very many great people as his students including several ministers and senior officials. All of them  were  happy only when they get blessing from their Venkatraman Sir. Manni used to tell me   that unexpected guests to feed was a  rule not exception in their house .
Thankanna   did build a  home of his own in poonkunnam,He called this house  Epsilon. Once i asked him why   and he said it was  “as small   as he liked” like epsilon
In the nineties my Thankanna passed away  and whenever i used to pass through Trichur , i used  to make  it a point to meet manni.Always she to welcome me   with her trademark smile   and make me very comfortable,
Manni is also  no more  and today it  is the hundredth star  birthday  of my Thankanna
You can read   about him and his achievements  in  https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/C._S._Venkataraman

Practical Hindu Philosophy in few verses

Practical Hindu  Philosophy  in few verses

By
P.R.Ramachander

(I read this in tamil   but  though  great it was  not written properly  ,I am trying to write  it in English   using my own words. Thanks   to the original author)

If we who sprouted   from the  earth ,
Do not know  God who made us sprout ,
Necessarily  we  have to go back again,
To the earth    from where   we  came

On stage   we say  all religions are Okay,
But  till  we  finally go  to our final place,
WE normally    say  that our religion only  is great ,
And aim  to destroy , all those who walk on road.

In spite  of reading   any number   of Sastras,
To fill up the pot in the body called belly,
WE either   have to beg food  from some people ,
Or we have  to snatch  it from someone.

Though  God   has given everything   free  to us,
WE make everything   that we  see  as ours,
Kill  all those   who  claim  it  as theirs and oppose  us,
Without  knowing  that always  death is waiting for us.

Making  one being    as food,
To another  is the rule of earth.
Some   of it   would  happen to us,
But we would not be able to see  many.

The  one  who   does  not know this  and wanders ,
Talking some non sense  is like  a  wick of the  lamp,
Without oil    which  burns    for a little time ,
And is completely   put  out.

To send  any  satellite    in to the sky ,
By making it free from gravity we need an airship,
And  to make  ourmind peaceful ,
we  need an airship called   human body.

After    we send the airship ,
In the sky  , the airship would fall down,
Similarly   after  getting rid of attachment,
This   body also    would  follow on earth

Till plants produce seed , they will germinate,
Till  desire  is there among beings , they would be born,
They would definitely experience   joy and sorrow.
The universe   would  be perplexed not knowing why.

The God who created us  and who is within our mind  are same,
Once you know God well, you would realize that  all are same,
But  instead of that  , if one  keeps on doing research on God,
You cannot avoid   being victim of death   again and again.

Untill and unless   we   realize   within ourselves,
That   the   stars    which shine   in the sky  ,
And the various beings that  live in earth are same  .
The crop called love would not grow in your mind

If love is there   in the heart  ,
Sweetness  will spread in your  words and acts.
But if   the arrows called hatred  come out of it,
Only pain would remain.
