When the great Athi Madhura Kavi Rayar challenged  other poets Poet Kalamegha  Pulavar  accepted the challenge . Kavi Rayar   challenged KalaMegham to write   about the  ten incarnations of Lord Vishnu  in a four line poem.Kavi Kalamegham laughed   and said he can  write it  in two lines  and this is the poem he wrote:-

மெச்சுபுகழ் வேங்கடவா! வெண்பாவிற் பாதியிலென்

இச்சையிலென் சென்ம மெடுக்கவா – மச்சாகூர்

மாகோலா சிங்காவா மாராமா ராமாரா

மாகோபா லாமாவா வாய்

Mechu pugazh venkadava , venpavir pathiyil yen,

Ichchayilen  chenma medukkavaa, Machaa koor,

Makkola Singaa Vamaa  Rama, Rama ra-

Ma Gopala  Maavavai

When others could  not understand  he explained:-

மெச்சு புகழ் – தேவர் முனிவர் ஆகிய அனைவரும் மெச்சுகின்ற பெரும் கீர்த்தியை உடைய-Fame which is praised

வேங்கடவா – திருவேங்கடம் உடையானே!- Lord Venkatesa

வெண்பாவில் பாதியில் – ஒரு வெண்பாவில் பாதியில்-Half of a four line verse

என் இச்சையில் – எனது விருப்பப்படி-as per my wish

உன் சென்மம் எடுக்க – உன் அவதாரம் பத்தையும் எடுத்துக் கூற-To take  all your incarnations

வா – வந்து அருள்வாயாக!-Bless me with your grace

மச்சா – மச்சாவதாரத்தைச் செய்தவனே- He who became fish

கோலா – வராஹாவதாரத்தைச் செய்தவனே-boar

கூர்மா – கூர்மாவதாரத்தைச் செய்தவவே-turle

சிங்கா – நரசிங்கனே=-Narasimha

வாமா – வாமனனே-Vamana

ராமா – பரசுராமா!-Parasurama

ராமா – தசரத ராமா! Dasaratha Ram

ராமா – பலராமா!-Bala Rama

கோபாலா – கிருஷ்ணா-Krishna

மா ஆவாய் – இனி கல்கி அவதாரம் செய்யப் போகின்றவனே!-He who is going to be Kalki

And I have tried  to translate  it in to a four line poem

Oh Lord  Venkata  whose  fame is praised,

Help me to sing  about ten incarnations in a half a verse,

Fish, boar ,  turtle , lion , dwarf, rama  with an axe ,

with a  bow, and with a plough, Krishna who will become Kalki
