(I was not aware of this form of Krishna , though I have visited Puri Temple .My friend Smt Pushkala Ravindran drew my attention to it .Thanks to her)
You have seen Ganesa and Narasimha both having human body and a animal head
You have seen God Sarabha which is a combination of man lion and bird but have you seen a combination of nine animals called Navagunjara a combination of nine animals
It seems came across this animal with head of a rooster the neck of a peacock, the waist of a lion, the hump of a bull, the tail of a serpent, the leg of an elephant, another leg of a tiger, yet another leg of an antelope and a human hand holding a lotus.
Arjuna was about to shoot but seein g the lotus flower it holds, he desists and watches it
Krishna then appears to him and says that the navagunjara is another of his forms, similar to the Viratsvarupa of the Bhagwad Gita. In the navagunjara, Krishna expresses the plurality of approaches to and the understanding of reality.
This Navagunjara is worshipped by Vaishnavites in Orissa and you can see its huge painting in side the famous Pui Jagannatha temple. ,It is believed that those who are able to see this form will get victory in life .
