Real love is same both in east and west

Real love is same   both    in east and west

By
P.R.Ramachander

(I read  about  the Indian couple in  the post of my friend Bhanu   Ravi  and ofcourse   the other  is the famous short story  of  O.Henry. Both illustrate  the  real meaning of love.)

Hari  married  Sita ,an extremely pretty girl,
And lead a   rapturous  life with her.
Suddenly one day    without any reason  ,
Sita   due to some  skin problem  started looking progressively  ugly

John   fell in love   with  Mary  in USA ,
They dated   long and  got married ,
But John and Mary   were extremely poor.
And their   first anniversary   soon approached

Hari  suddenly  became blind  and needed,
Some one to take    care  of him every minute,
Sita  who was   very ugly by    that time,
Took care of him    extremely  well.

Poor John had   a wrist watch  but no strap,
Poor Mary had a long hair   but no comb,
And they both decided   to present,
Each other what they lacked.

Times went by   and one day  Sita  became very sick,
And breathed her last in the arms  of Hari,
Last rites  of Sita   were performed by Hari,
And he walked back   without any help.

John did buy a comb so that  Mary,
Could  take care  of hair and make it pretty,
Mary did   buy  a   pretty watch strap,
So that  John    could tie the watch to his wrist.

Some one approached    Hari who was blind,
And offered help  to lead him to his home,
Hari replied, “I can see”  but  I did act as blind,
So that my Sita   would never feel bad  of her ugly face.

When  John took    the  comb to Mary,
And when Mary took the strap to John,
Both were shocked , Mary  had sold   her hair,
To buy the strap and john  had sold his watch to buy a comb.

Real love whether   it is in east  or west ,
Is not  the love for the happiness  of the self,
But  is the  great   desire  to make , their partners,
Happy , sacrificing  ones   every thing.

A teacher –the salutable cynosure of all eyes

A teacher –the  salutable   cynosure   of all eyes

By

(I got the    idea to write about  a teacher   after   reading with tears in eyes a  post by  Meena Rajan  .She is a teacher  and  struggling  to build  up a great school  in a village . Whenever I see her name in face book, I mentally salute her . In one of her posts   she has written :-
“Sweet  good morning to you all.   This school is in finishing stage   but  is lagging behind. I am requesting your help to complete it soon  for the sake of the students. If you are able to help me a little  , it would soon get over.

A teacher   joined a  village  school to teach ,
The matured  and old  head master  told her,
“You have only two eyes  bur rememember,
Wherever   you are  one thousand   eyes would see  you,.”

He further  told ,”I am not   telling   only in your class,
Or the school premises  , but where you go,
People everywhere    would  watch you,
To know  how   you behave yourself, as you are a teacher.”

No one  employed    in any other  profession,
Would be watched   like   a teacher any where,
For  much more   than qualification,
Is expected   from a teacher  of children.

The teacher used to walk   to my school  by the main road ,
Of  the little  village    and to her   surprise   she saw,
That various  business  people   of shops in the street,
Stood up    and salted   her    with folded   hands,

She felt very odd that  people    who are  old enough,
To be her fathers  and grand fathers,
Were saluting her  with great reverence,
And that young girl  of twenty    started taking another way.

That day evening   one elder   from  those   shops,
Met her  and enquired   why  she altered her path.
The girl   with shyness   told her   thoughts,
And he said , “you are  to  us a  goddess,
Who steers our children  to the future bright”

The greatest challenge   that a  teacher faces,
Is this expectation  from   all people,
And   as a teacher  she dedicates  all her life,
So that   this hope is never broken,
And those   who adore her are not disappointed.

Once she does , her  school  would  lift.
Its head   in great pride  for a good job done.

Cutnocutmania-Can it be cured?

Cutnocutmania-Can it be cured?

Translated from Malayalam
By
P.R.Ramachander
 '

(All wives want to investigate   the thought process of their husband-This is done by series  of questions. Most of the husbands manage it by saying   either no or yes for answer repeatedly  .Possibly after   some time they would know only   two words-yes and no. I got the original material from Whatsapp. There is every possibility that  the malyalam bit was   translated from English.)

Wife –Darling shall  I cut my hair?
Husband –Ofcourse  by  all means
Wife -You know how muxh trouble  I took to groe it like this?
Husband-Then do not cut
Wife- My friends say  a short hair suits  me netter
Husband- Then please cut
Wife Darling with cut hair  , I cannot  braid the hair
Huband- Then do not cut
Wife-Darling I am thinking  of experimenting
Husband-Then you can cut
Wife-But suppose  it turns ugly
Husband-Then do not cut
Wife-But short hair is fashion now
Husbabd- Then you can cut
Wife-When shall we go?
Husband-you can cut
Wife-I was telling about going to my mother’s home.
Husband-Then you can cut

Poor husband was taken to a psychyarist  , who diagnosed  his disease  is cutnocut mania  and suggested   complete   shaving   hair of the wife as treatment

Old people are “Gods of experience and treasures who love us”

Old people are “Gods of experience and treasures who love us”

Translated by
P.R.Ramachander

(Based I on writing  posted by  Sri Rajagopal Srinivasan .My thanks to him.)

1.Old age  is the second infancy and,
Only his    family  members can  make it  pleasant,
The senior citizens    are the fruits  of experience,
If  we look after   and protect them properly ,
WE would became mature and  have a meaningful life.

2.Old people  do not  expect  separate room, AC or TV,
They want   you to love them, express it by words,
When you go out in the morning  bid them farewell,
And when you return back ask them, “how was   the day.”

3.Provide  facilities  to them for meeting   their friends,
Or at least talk to them ,because   by talking ,
To their friends     about   this and that,
They would feel  that they are   not alone.

4.When friends   visit you at   home  ,
Please introduce them to the old  people in home,
So that they will   never , ever feel ,
That  they are safe and a part of your home

4.At any time   , do not make   fun of the old people,
Especially   about   their old    age   problems,
Of hearing problem, poor   memory  and constant repetitions ,
If you do this  , though they are  true, they will   wounded.

5.If the old one    is affected    by diseases   like  ,
Diabetes , heart problem  ,  arthritis etc,
Please purchases the needed  medicines  one week,
IN advance, also give them   needed preventive  medicines.

6you have to give  more   attention  on their  needed,
Exercise and treatment and annually make  it a point,
Do their   health    check up   and to women above fifty,
Regularly get donethyroid test and mammograms , papasmear etc.

7.You have to encourage   old people    to use ,
Modern electronic gadgets so that,
They get a feeling   that  up to date,
With modern   technologies  ,
And keep them fit   and happy.

8.See to it that all old people    are  entrusted,
Responsibilities  like    taking children to school,
Going to near by shop  , minor   jobs  in the kiychen,
Because then they feel   that they  are  part of your home.

9.Give all people   in your home  who does not earn,
Some pocket money , so that  they can go to temples,
Buy sweets to the children , give children presents  ,
And so on so that   their dignity  is never damaged.

10.When you take   important   decisions  in family  ,
Do consult the elders as their experience  would be helpful,
And a request to elders, never interfere in life of youngsters,
As they     may think it is unnecessary  interference.

A request to the you, please show concern ,
On them  who are interested as much as ,
God  in our welfare , and please remember,
They were   the people   who  cared for  you,
Sacrificed their all  , to make  you happy.

Written by affectionate father to his darling son

Written by  affectionate father   to  his darling son

Translated by
P.R.Ramachander

(I saw the original in Tamil in a whatsapp post  . I do not know  who wrote it.)

Oh son  , the old age home where you
Have admitted me is indeed convenient,
When you left  me there   and went way ,
I remembered  the olden days   ,
When I left you crying behind my back   ,
After  I admitted you in your school,
Hiding my tears   with great  difficulty,
For the sake of your bright future.

I compare my wanderings here and there
To locate  a great school for you,
To the amount of efforts  that you put
To choose  a  first class old age home for me.

For your sending money regularly  but not visiting me,
I am happy, possibly  it is  due to my not  visiting your hostel,
With  a belief   that I would disturb your studies,

You are   after all spending completely  the experience
That you saved in youth slowly and slowly.
But there is a  difference between you and me,
I taught   you what is life ,
And now you are teaching me ,
That this is   what is meant by relationship

When I read this poem, ,my eyes  become a pond of tears,

Any one who has  affection to his parents must share  this

There was a father  who had a daughter ,
Mischievous and one year old ,
He wanted to find  her future  ,
And so  he kept before her,
Three things money, pen and a doll.
If  she chooses  money, then  she will be rich,
If  she  chooses   the pen, she  would be a writer,
And if she  chooses a   doll,  she would be happy,
Sitting behind those  he called  her
For some time   she was thinking ,
And started   crawling fast  towards those things,
She did not bother  about those  three,
Rushed next to him    and sat on his  lap.
Still  he does  not know what she will be

Can you help him please?

The book on daughters

The book on daughters

Dedicated to my friends who  are  as lucky as me    to have  a daughter

Translated  in to English ,
By
P.R.Ramachander

(Here is a pretty collection of poems   about daughters written in Tamil, posted in face book  by my friend   Chandrasekaran Vembu.  I am giving   the tamil text below   my translation. Having had a  darling daughter , these poems touched the raw wound in my heard , when she left me after marriage)

1.As soon as she was born,When my daughter
They gave    the  light  red coloured  angel,
Wrapped in a white  cloth,
My heart  was like  her  two eyes,
Moving within her   eye lids.

2.When  my daughter   was  drawing  Rangoli,
Some Gods were  waiting with hope  till it ends,
So that  they could live on that  Rangoli  forever

3.The mind  which never gets  ever satisfied,
When scoops of food is offered,
Gets satisfied when my daughter  gives a pinch  of food.

4.When my daughter was serving   rice for me ,
The plate  contained   little rice ,
But it was full of   ebbing  joy.

5.Every night  I used  to watch   the face,
Of   my sleeping  daughter,
Except for this  I do not do any meditation

6.She put   a thilak  and went away
I used to move my eye brows,
To make  it in their middle

7.AS soon as my daughter was born ,
I used to hold and caress  her little finger,
Possibly  remembering that ,
Wherever   we go, she holds my little finger.

8,My home gets filled  up,
Due to the feet  of my daughter

9.The wet kiss that my  daughter gave ,
Makes  my memories  wet

10.Though all the drinking water in the jug,
Got spilled out  when my daughter  brought it  ,
All my thirst   was quenched,

11.She always used  to lie down on my chest,
And gave me a pillow to use ,
When she   is not there,
I am gasping for breath.

12.When I cry,
My daughter  with her little hands,
Removes  the   tear pond  of mine,
And completely dries it away

13,When my daughter got angry ,
I  begged for her pardon kneeling down,
And as she is  not god,
She immediately  pardoned  me

14,When my daughter   draws birds,
If they fly away  immediately ,
When she would   be able to  complete the picture

15,When my daughter   gets angry,
I sit   very near her,
When she raises  her head for reconciliation,
If I am not there  ,
The poor one’s face will fade.

16.My daughter who was   counting the  stars slept,
But in spite of my telling    again and again,
Those stars were   waiting till morn.

17.My daughter   is adamantly saying,
That I have to rescue the moon   from the flower pot,
Where  by mistake  it has fallen down,
And  now when I have  fallen down  in to her affection,
Only the   moon can save.

18,While  my daughter  was naming the stars,
Four stars were   sufficient for her,

Father, mother , brother  and herself
