Kerala- Indian
State with no Crackers for Deepavali
By

(This is my recollection of my childhood. Things might have
changed)
Possibly
most of you may not know that
for except for handful Tamil
Brahmins living in Palghat,
Deepavali is not an important festival
in Kerala
No crackers are
burst in the morning (it is done for Vishu)
No lamps
are lit in the evening
No one wears new
cloths (people wearnew cloths to Vishnu
and Onam)
No one invites
newly married daughter and son in law and gives
them presens
And
No relations come
to celebrate Deepavali (every keralite
lands in Kerala during Onam)
Most of the tamil Brahmins in our villages used
to take Oil bath and very, very
few prepared sweets.Ofcourse no one purchased new cloths
Iunderstand recently Keralites have started giving sweets
to Northern settlers in Kerala
