Meera’s  innovative doll  arrangement for 2018 Navarathri

(Meera is my daughter .She  is professional story teller   who does not want to routinely    do  what all  the other  persons are doing. This year she has  chosen Avathara (major, minor and ordinary  as her theme. I stood frozen to see  her Kolu .I wanted to share   what I saw with you all)

Avathara  is a Sanskrit   word that  ,

Means  making   an appearance ,

For   some purpose   by some one ,

Though  we take it to mean incarnation of God.

1.Avathara  of Lord  Vishnu  as Vamana

Maha Bali    was king   who was  very proud,

And he   thought   he can do anything  in the world,

God  came as  a little  boy with a little  feet and asked,

For three   feet of land  which   Maha Bali   could not give

2. Incarnation   of  Lord  Vishnu    as Krishna

Nala and Kubhara   were   were sons  of richest God,

And so they thought   they can make  fun of a poor sage,

And the sage   cursed  them to become trees and ,

God  Vishnu came as a  mischievous cowherd to fell the   trees,

And give them both   their  original  forms    without   any pride

3.Appearance  of Jaya  , Vishnu’s    security guard  as Ravana

Jaya   thought he was   great  because  he was guarding Vishnu,

And insulted a  saint   who cursed     him to   become a ten headed Rakshasa,

And That  Rakshasa  lifted a  mountain  on which Sat Shiva ,

And just by a press  of the God’s toe  he lost all his hands ,

But  he Got   them back   when he  reduced his pride a bit.

4,Appearance   of   Adhi sesha   as   Lakshmana

  Ravana  later wanted   to kidnap   Goddess  Lakshmi  born as   Sita,

Who was   again proud  because , she was wife  of Rama ,

Adhisesha  came there  as Lakshmana   and drew a line for her safety,

But proud Sita crossed   that line  and lost her independence.

3.Appearance  of  Lord  Shiva   as a  hunter

Arjuna    was   very proud that  he was a great archer ,

And to get   the best possible arrow , he prayed to Lord Shiva

And  Lord Shiva came there  as a hunter  and Parvathy as huntress,

And an   Asura  in the form of a   boar   tried   to kill Arjuna.

Both Arjuna   andLord Shiva  as hunter  sent arrows to kill the boar,

Though  Arjuna  claimed  he killed  it , he later  realized

That it was killed by Lord Shiva himself   to save him,

And the  pleased  Lord Shiva   gave   an arrow called  Pasupatha to Arjuna

4.Appearance  of Goddess  Lakshmi   and Goddess earth  as  Wives of Krishna

Goddess Lakshmi  and  goddess earth    were  born as,

Two wives  of Krishna   called  Rukmani  and Bhama,

Bhama  was very proud  and thought   that  she loved  Krishna more,

One day  sage Narada  brought  a balance to find out   who  has more ornaments.

Bhama  placed  tonnes  of her ornaments on one pan of the balance ,

And Rukmani  just placed  a Thulasi leaf   she was wearing on the other pan.

To every one’s     surprise   both pans   showed they were equal,

The rich ornaments with pride   and one leaf  placed there  with love

5.Appearance  of Lord   Ganesa   as a  cowherd

Ravana  once was taking  a Shiva  Linga   to Sri Lanka,

He was told not to keep   it any where on  his way back

Ravana  badly needed  to take bath   and Ganesa  appeared there as a boy

And agreed   to  look after  the shiva linga  for five minutes.

Ravana   was just late   by one minute   and Ganesa  the boy,

Kept it on earth and ran away  and  our people,

Then built a temple    for   God Shiva there   called Gokarna

6.Appearance  of Lord  Shiva as a beggar

Lord Shiva had  only  three   heads    and was  very proud,

But   when he plucked one   head of  Lord  Brahma ,

He was cursed   that  he should  become a beggar  ,

And  had  to take alms   from his own wife   who came as Annapurna

7.Appearance of Lord   Ganesa  as an elephant

Lord Subrahmanya   was    very proud of his beauty  ,

But  Valli   a gypsy  princess    did not bother   about him at all,

And so Lord Ganesa   asked him  to go and meet Valli as a very old man,

And the Lord himself became an elephant and she got scared  and hugged the old man.

6.Apperance  Of Vijaya the security   guard of Vishnu  as Kumbhakarna

Vijaya    was  a security   guard  of  Lord Vishnu,

And he too was cursed    to be born as  a  Rakshasa,

And he was born as Kumbhakarna  the  brother of Ravana,

He was proud that  he can do  better  worship than Ravana ,

And wanted  to ask for deathlessness   but  Goddess  SAraswathi,

Sat on his  toungue   and made him ask  for  sleepiness,

7.Appearance  of Goddess  Parvathy   as Sakambari

Once in the  world there  was  no rain for hundred years,

And all the people   joined   together  and prayed,

The mother Goddess   and hearing    their prayer  came  with thousand eyes

And seeing their misery  she   cried    from  all her thousand eyes,

And made  rivers full of water   and later   she became  Sakambari,

The one   who provided    fruits and vegetable top people

8.Appearance  of  Goddess Lakshmi  as Aandal

Goddess  Lakshmi was   born as  a little baby,

And   was found and brought up   by a saint,

Who used to make    garlands to Lord Vishnu,

That girl Aandal  loved the Lord   so much that,

She wanted God  to wear    the best possible garland,

And so  she wore them first  before being taken to temple,

God Ranganatha pardoned her mistake and took her as his wife.

9. Rolling  rice cakes from Japan

  One wood cutter   in japan went to cut wood  in forest,

And his wife gave him   rice cakes to eat   and  unfortunely,

One of them rolled in to a pit  and was  eaten by  the mice there,

And they sang   a song of rolling    rice cakes   and the old man,

Gave one by one   all his rice cakes   to the mice there ,

And they gave him back a rice bag which never got exhaustedof rice

10.How Anansi   got   all the stories  of  Africa

Once the  sky God  Nyme  owned  all stories in the world,

When Anansi approached him  , he wanted  a python,

A leopard , the hornets   and a dwarf  to get the stories,

Anansi  caught hold  of them all   andhe got all   stories of the world

11.Story of   the rain bow fish- a story from Switzerland

There was a pretty rain bow   wish wandering in the sea,

When the blue fish asked   for his scale , he did not share it.

He became  lonely   and the octopus adviced him to  share his scale,

Though he lost all his scales  ,always surrounded by  his friends , he was happy

13.Story   of four river   dragons from China

Once upon a time   there   were   no rivers in China,

And there   were   four   very big dragons  playng

Once they were o playing in the sky and saw people  praying,

And though   they went to God , he did not sent rain ,

Then they  sucked water    from ocean   and sprayed on the sky

And  caused  rain , the god did not like  it but  eventually

They created  four big rivers    which supply water  to China

14. Story   of the   rain bow   crow 

Once upon a time  , the   world   was very cold ,

All animals were   suffering  and rain bow crow,

Flew and met the God   who gave  it fire ,

But carrying   the fire  back , the crow became  black.
