Horanadu  Annapurneswari temple of Karnataka

Due to   the curse of the sages  of  Daruka  Vana , Lord Shiva had   to beg for alms from his own consort .Goddess  Parvathy   assumed the form of Goddess  Annapurna  to do this job. The most ancient   and primary   temple  of hers is in Varanasi. Most   of the    states  of India have   temples   dedicated to her  . The most  important one dedicated   to her in Karnataka   , is in a place   called Horanadu, by the side  of  river Badra.  The location of the temple  is in the middle of western ghats   and is very charming.
      Devotees believe that   the Goddess  was consecrated   there by sage Agasthya   long long ago,.It continued to be a   very small temple., But for the past 400 years   the temple is being looked after   by  a  family. The major umprovement   of the temple was brought about by   the fifth Dharmadhikari    Sri  D.B. Venkatasubba jois  and the kumbhabisheka  of the temple was consecrated   in the year 1973., The last Dharmadhikari of the temple   is  Sri Gajendraprasanna Jois, established the latest steam cooking system, bathrooms, toilets, Annachathra, drainage system in the village, “Free Brahmopanayana” every year, construction  of rooms to the pilgrims, Labour  colony providing free clothes to the temple employees and their family members during the car festival every year, he expired in the year 1991. The goddess  who stands tall  is fully made of Gold .Once a devotee  sees her, he would not be able to   take his eyes away from her .
     Staying and food facilities of  all pilgrims    to the temple is made   free of charge. Staying one day peacefully in the temple  would be just like staying in heaven

Nandadeep (Per day)= 50-00
One Day Kainkary Seva to Lord Ganpathi & Shri Annapoorneshwari      Ammanavaru=1500-00
Annadana Seva (For one time)= 6000-00
Shri Navagraha Pooja= 300-00
Panchakajjaya Nivedana (To Lord Ganapathi)= 40-00
Asthothara Kukumarchana= 20-00
Shri Sathyaganesha Vratha= 300-00
Shri Sathyanarayana Vratha=300-00
On Friday there is a special Seva
Shukravara Seva
The minimum amount to be payable for Shukravara Seva is Rs. 1000-00
The period of Shukravara seva is for 1 years only.
For a period of 12 months on a given Friday (1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th, any one of the Friday) Kumkumarchana Seva will be performed.
Seva can be renewed after 1 year by paying above mentioned amount.
Every Friday Seva for one year Rs 2500-00. ( 52 week ).

        Males are not supposed to wear  shirts or vests when they enter  the  temple complex. There  is no specific dress code for ladies 
The nearest air port is Mangalore, the nearest railway station is Shimoga and pilgrims have to reach the temple by road only. Bus facilities for   the temple are   available from   towns like Bangalore, Mysore, Mangalore, Shimoga etc
