ஏன் இந்த முக வாட்டம்
எதற்கு இந்த நாடகம்??

Why this dull look ,

And why this drama?

1. அயர்ந்து தூங்கும் உன்னை
ஆநிரைகள் மேய்க்கச் சொல்லி
அதிகாலை எழுப்பினாளோ
அன்னை யசோதையுமே

(ஏன் இந்த முக வாட்டம்)

Did   your mummy Yasoda ,

Wake you    up  early morning ,

When you were  sleeping deeply ,

And order   you   herd the  cattle?

2. குடம் குடமாக வெண்ணெய்
வீடெங்கும் நிறைந்திருக்க
சுண்டைக்காயளவு வெண்ணெய் தந்து
மண்ணை வாரி உண்ண வைத்ததாலோ

(ஏன் இந்த முக வாட்டம்)

When the   house  is completely filled ,

With pots   and pots of butter,

Did she offer  you  a small  ball of butter ,

And made you pick up and eat mud?

3. கள்வன் என்று பலர் ஏசி
கையும் களவுமாக உனைப் பிடித்து
அன்னை யசோதை முன் நிறுத்த
அதட்டி உருட்டி மிரட்டினதாலோ

(ஏன் இந்த முக வாட்டம்)

Did  many people    berate you as a thief ,

Catch you  with   all sort  of proof,

And made    you stand before  Yasoda ,

Who shouted at you and made  you like this?

4. சுட்டெரிக்கும் வெயிலில்
கஷ்டப்பட்டு மாடு மேய்த்து
இஷ்டப்பட்ட பக்ஷணங்கள் தராமல்
துஷ்டப்பயல் என வைததாலோ

(ஏன் இந்த"முக வாட்டம்)

Is it because     you herded  the cattle ,

With difficulty In  the burning   red hot   Sun,

And not offer   you   the  eatables  that  you lije,

And chided  you  that you  are a very bad boy?

5.ஊரார் ஏச்சுப் பொறுக்காமல்
உரலில் கயிறால் கட்டி வைத்து
அங்குமிங்கும் நகரவிடாமல்
அங்கமெலாம் நொந்ததாலோ

Is it because   that  being unable   to face criticisms,

She tied   you with a rope  on the  mortar  .

And prevented   you from moving here  and there ,

And all   your  limbs   started  paining ?

6. எண்ணெய் தேய்த்துக் குளிக்க மறுத்தாய்
வெண்ணெய்ப் பானைகளை உடைத்தாய்
மண்ணை வாரி உண்டு மகிழ்ந்தாய்
கண்ணை மூடி உறங்கி நடித்தாய்

6. Did You refuse   to take  oil bath,

Did You break   several  pots of butter,

Did you eat   mud   and became  happy,

Did you  close  your eyes   and feigned   sleep?

7. எத்தனை சேட்டைகள் பொறுப்பாள்
அன்னை யசோதை தேவியுமே
பட்டென முதுகில் ஒன்று வைத்தாள்
பாலகன் உன்,முகம் வாடியதோ

காரணத்தை அறிந்து கொண்டேன்
கண்ணா என்னிடம் வந்து விடு

How much    of your  great mischiefs,

Can your mother  Yasoda   tolerate,

She   beat  you once  in your back,

Did your face   fade because  of that,

Now  I understood   the  reason,

Oh Krishna , please   come to me
